Contract Ending

Looking for a bit of advice please..
I've had a 24mth Dolphin Orange contract for my daughter through mobiles.co.uk which is due to finish 4th January, question is do I need to contact orange/mobiles.co.uk to cancel the contract or does it just expire ?
My daughter is now looking for a blackberry but looking on their website they do not offer the phone/contract she is looking for so we would like to go with someone else but she would like to keep her number.
Any ideas ?

Contracts don't end. All that happens is the minimum term ends, at which point they change to a 30 days rolling contract. You need to tell them if you want to end it.

If you want to take her number to another network, then you need to ask for a pac code. Give this to your new network and they'll move the number over to them for you (take about 4 working days, they'll give you a temporary number while it goes through). A pac only lasts for 30 days, after that you need a new one. Once you use your pac the old contacts ends and your old network sends you a final bill.

    Thanks for the reply.
She wants to stick with Orange but start a new contract through either e2save or onestopmobileshop which both offer the phone she is looking for but ideally would like to keep the same number, do you know if this is possible ?

That's called a 'backdoor upgrade' (getting a new customer deal while being an existing customer). None of the networks will allow it.

If she wants to keep her number and stay with the same network, there's a work around. Get the pac for the old number, move that to another networks payg. Start the new contract, get the pac for the payg and move back to the old network. Job done.

Yes, its a faff, but that's the point, they don't want you doing it. . .
