you can get 2x8GB cards if you like ... i'm not sure what the advantage would be?
Slightly condescending of you, but as you're unsure why anyone would ever want multiple smaller cards...

If you're shooting video maybe out on location, and you have a laptop handy, you can get on with the edit whilst shooting more material. Take a conference for example - you can be recording one speaker whilst producing the edited/DVD version of the previous one. Or shooting drama you can check the rushes and perform an assembly edit on a decent sized screen without holding up production.

As for the class 10 16GB card you found for £18, great deal, yep sure it'll be cheaper than 2x8GB at the moment, cool etc. But the principle stands, the numbers just change from time to time - say a 64GB card Class 10 currently costs around £300 from that same site, but 2x 32GB at £50 each if you go for Class 4 or £130 each for class 10 - again, if you don't need class 10, you could save a heap. The numbers keep changing with deals of the day, but the principle stands.

Yes in the past, and potentially in the future, it may be cheaper to buy alot of small cards... however given the availability of a particular decent quality low priced card said principle is suspended for the moment, and as I pointed out if the OP is looking to buy now any advice to but multiple smaller cards to achieve 16GB should not be heeded (unless the OP has specific need for multiple cards)

again no, if you don't need class 10 here I see ABSOLUTELY no reason to pay more for a slower speed card unless you have old hardware that can't cope with higher specs (if it can do SDHC I'm not aware of any that can't cope with higher end speed classes).

As before conventional historic wisdom is suspended for now while the market is such you must pay more for poorer performance speed and capacity wise..... :)

Absolutely. Why pay more for a slower speed card? No reason.

But I'm sure you agree if the numbers were for 32GB cards this very day, then would you pay £130 for class 10 or £50 for class 4 if you weren't going to use the extra speed. Those prices are from the site you mentioned, today. So I maintain that the general principle stands, that slower cards are typically cheaper, and if you don't need the extra speed, why pay for it. If it's cheaper, yes of course, as with that nice deal you found, but that's the exception rather than the rule, I suggest.

I don't know how the OP is planning on using his camera either.

Certainly a great find though, and agree that the OP should take advantage of it.
  • If your'e going down the 8GB route, 7dayshop do a Transcend class 10 for £7.99, free delivery.

I use them lots, great service, takes about a week to get here as they are in Jersey but no problem at that price.

The price does keep going up and down about 20p from one day to the next.

never buy USB sticks or memory cards from eBay, the vast majority of the high capacity ones are fake. 7dayshop is pretty reputable.
