Tesco Passing Off Old DSi as New!!!

When i bought my daughters digital camera i made the shop open and check it just to make sure the screen wasn't broken, i think i'll do that with all electricals etc in future.
There was a program on tv in the summer about scams for electrical items, think it was even Martin Lewis himself that did the program.
Basically, a shop shows you a top of the range camera at a great price, they go in the back to get your new boxed up camera, you really get a cheap camera in the box.
Very hard to take it back to the shop and prove otherwise after the purchase has been made and you have left the shop.
Admittedly this was about foreign holiday scams I think, but I would still bear this in mind.0 -
I think i seen something similar on 'The Real Hustle' they were showing you the items then just giving you a box filled with telephone directories etc. There was a program on tv in the summer about scams for electrical items, think it was even Martin Lewis himself that did the program.

reading through this thread, my spidey senses were tingling and i could feel the thread heading toward the old chestnut that is a claim for the righteous payment of compensation, but i am happy that you're content with a replacement and aren't demanding compo.
turns out the tingling wasn't my spidey senses, it's my bout of clap flaring up againhelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
Thanks people.
The wife has just phoned and they are giving her a 'new' one. Which is great, but i would still like to write them a letter and complain. My son is kinda sensitive and he was really quite upset yesterday, and the whole thing just took the shine off his special day.
I remember there was an email address for the chairman of Tesco's -does anyone have this?
I think you are being a bit to sensitive here. Tesco's sorted it out and to be fair as you only gave it to him 4 months after you bought it they could have kicked up more of a stink! The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
4 people on the ignore list....Bliss!0 -
To me it just sounded like the OP was annoyed that they paid for new and received a second hand product, all that they wanted was an explanation and maybe an apology.
To be fair you expect more from a massive company like Tesco. Having to check your items before you leave, is something more associated with a pop up shop or a market stall.
From my experience, the staff do make you feel as though you are doing something wrong when you question the product or ask for something to be done about it, even though it is Tesco who are at fault.
There does seem to be a recurring theme here that Tesco do not check returns properly, and are very quick to resell returned products.0 -

The only thing I found odd in a way was wanting an explanation. It would be nothing more than a superficial gesture as they'd likely not be able to track the person responsible down, let alone interrogate them as to why they made a mistake they won't even remember making (as it probably wasn't done on purpose).0 -
Isn't there usually a seal on the box?

And actually, if a product (electrical) is returned to store a Hardline return slip is filled out and attached to the product, which is then sent back to where it came from. I can see why you're annoyed, but tbh after 4 mths you did get a replacement, which is surprising...I've had customers ask me before to resell them a returned product and we're not allowed to. It wasn't an INTENTIONAL act so don't think it's appropriate for you to be so raging angry about it...kinda pointless too.0 -
Would have been interesting if the box returned was empty!

You already have by taking the matter up with the store that you bought it from. They have dealt with it and you have a new DSi. Personally I'd leave it there.
What utter CODSWALLOP.
OP bought a decent trinket for her son and we should not allow conglomerates like this to get away with passing on second hand stuff willy nilly. The store should be raided by TS and the police, the staff thrown in the slammer for a few days, whilst we the proletariat plunder the place and do some redistribution of the vast profits they have made out of our misfortunes0
