Tesco Passing Off Old DSi as New!!!

Not sure if this is the right place for my rant - but here goes.
I purchased a DSi from Tesco at the end of August for my sons birthday (which is today). We let him open his presents yesterday - everything fine - later when I asked him how his new DSi was he said it was good but it wasnt brand new. i said it was but he said it has someone elses name on it and some photos already on it. I thought maybe that these were example ones but on closed inspection the instructions have a coffee stain on it. My son told me he didnt have to take off a protective film on the screen (i would expect there to be one on a new one).
I told my son i would take it back - then he got really upset and started crying, he deleted the photos as he thought that when i took it back he wouldnt get another one.
Tried to take it back yesterday but was told that they would do it in the store and I need to call the Electrical helpdesk.
Now my sons says it doesnt matter that its second hand can he just keep it.
I am raging with Tescos - going to phone there Helpdesk when i calm down a bit.

First of all, Calm down! Yes it shouldn't have happened but ranting and raving won't help at all.
Did you purchase the DSi in store or online? and if it was instore then have you still got the reciept?
Depends where you purchased the Dsi as to what the best way to get this sorted is.:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly

Thanks...
I've had my caffeine fix and my nicotine fix so am i bit calmer.
The store CS Desk told me to phone the Electrical Helpdesk - i did. The Electrical helpdesk told me that that its between me and the store, so I asked for customer complaints number. The girl there spoke to the store manager and has advised me to take it back into store - where the will 'have a look at it'. So they havent said they will give me a brand new one, the wife is going there later - so will just have to wait and see. Hopefully its resolved.0 -
Don't go in all guns blazing. They may be in the wrong but if you cant prove it you are relying on good will.Poor little chap though!I would take the " I am so surprised and disappointed ,as I usually have such great service from you",approach.0

Thanks people.
The wife has just phoned and they are giving her a 'new' one. Which is great, but i would still like to write them a letter and complain. My son is kinda sensitive and he was really quite upset yesterday, and the whole thing just took the shine off his special day.
I remember there was an email address for the chairman of Tesco's -does anyone have this?0 -
I hardly think this needs to attention of the chairman, you had a issue, the store made a mistake somehow selling you a used DSi and they've resolved the issue by replacing it, what more do you want them to do?0

With all due respect , I don't think a letter of complaint would be justified. You say you purchased it in August and yet his birthday was yesterday. Did you not think to open the box and check it before giving it to him? I certainly would have done, especially something that cost that much, especially if I wasn't going to be handing it over for almost 4 months!
How are Tesco to know that your son HASN'T been using it for the past 4 months and you are trying to pull a fast one? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Ok i suppose i could have been trying to pull a fast one - but am not, and yes maybe i should have checked it when i bought it. I never really thought I presumed it was a brand new one. but all that being said in the end they have sold me something that has been used before.
They put a bit of a dampener on my sons birthday - I dont want anything off them other than a new DSi (which we have now got) and an explination as to why I managed to get something that was used before. The photos that were on the DSi we got were just of a boy and sister (possibly) - but there could have been something very unpleasant on them.
Do you honestly not thibnk that this is worth bring to the attention of the powers that be in Tesco?0 -

No, its sounds like a store issue unless all DSi's are used from tesco, the store management team need to find out why it happened and ensure it doesn't happen again although sometimes these things just happen, as you said the pictures were decent so "could have" is irrelevant. Just give the DSi to your son, make his day and move on is my advice.0

Yes your probably right - though an explanation would be nice. So I will write to them thanking them for the excellent customer service in this matter, but asking them if they could explain why it happened and leave it at that. Thats reasonable is it not?Forwandert wrote: »No, its sounds like a store issue unless all DSi's are used from tesco, the store management team need to find out why it happened and ensure it doesn't happen again although sometimes these things just happen, as you said the pictures were decent so "could have" is irrelevant.
