My Washing machine stops after Wash Cycle. It will not spin even on a spin only cycle

My Bosch Exxcell washing machine stops after the washing cycle. It does not rinse or spin. It will not spin on the SPIN ONLY cycle. It leaves machine full of water and I have to drain. The water does heat up so it not the heater that is at fault. Can anyone give me any guidance of how to repair myself. I am willing but not very quick or good at DIY but I am prepared to give it a go. HELP please.Thank you

If you go to this webpage and enter your machine details in the "search" or "ask" boxes you should find some help

It sounds as though your pump or the outlet pipe is blocked. The machine will not start to fill up for the rinse cycle until it knows that the wash water has been emptied out.

What stops the pump are usually things like socks blocking the pipe or bra underwires stopping the pump from turning.

    Turn the power off.

Ease the machine out and gently tilt it back against the wall. By all means have someone hold it steady for you.

Try turning the fan on the end of the pump (the small motor in line with the pipework to your outlet hose) and if it doesn't move - something is stopping it (usually at the washing machine side).

Also, squeeze the pipework between the bottom of your washer drum and the pump - you may be able to feel something like a sock in there.

If your machine has an in-line filter (usually of the type that you can check from the front of the machine) take a look at that too.

The precise method of disconnecting pipes or pump will depend on the make and model of your machine, though it's normally pretty self evident once you have a look.

I think squeaky has nailed it. I know I had this issue on a machine years ago but couldn't for the life of me remember what had caused it but that is exactly what it was - I just opened up the annoyingly positioned filter (difficult to catch the water that came out), cleaned out the stuff blocking it (fluff iirc) and all was good.
  • OP - if your machine is anything like my Bosch machine you'll be able to access the pump through a hatch located on the front at the bottom right (as you look at the machine). IIRC you remove the plastic cover to reveal a second round cover - remove this and you will have access to the inside of the pump where you can clear any obstructions.

If you aren't sure what I mean above I'm sure I could take a few photos when I get home.

Not a Bosch, but agree drain pump is at fault, as others say, blockage is the main cause, mine however was the pump impeller vanes had been broken off by crud, which required a new pump

Fairly easy to fit, but not a ten minute job

Hope yours is just some fluff or a penny
