Out of interest does anyone have any success at all with selling items through Gumtree?
I often have things listed and have only ever had one sale and I wondered if that was normal? I put loads up yesterday as I need some of the stuff i have here cleared before my holiday, and haven't even had a sniff of interest.

sold a tumble drier within 10 mins of posting but to be fair whilst it was 10 years old it had only been used for three months and then we moved house and since then it had just been under a sheet in the spare bedroom, so at twenty quid it was a bargain.0

I have had loads of successes with Gumtree0

Recently sold a car on Gumtree. It was barely on the site for 30 minutes. Maybe I was asking too little but I just wanted it away as I could not afford to put it through MOT. Anyway I got what I wanted for it - cash, and no problems wih the transaction.
Other items I have less luck with but they are things that I am not in any rush to sell so will keep trying.
Check your pricing with other items in your area and check other sites (eg ebay completed listings to so what similar items are selling for).
You could also try local free papers or list on ebay. Ebay seems to have regular free listing days at the the minute for non business sellers. Or if you are happy to get anything for it you can do an auction starting at 99p for no listing fee but remember you will still have a fee for the final selling value and for the Paypal payment.
Good luck.0 -
In my experience people seem to expect everything for nothing on Gumtree. I tried to give away a bed and washing machine as I urgently needed the space. I clearly stated collection only but I received masses of replies from people who were put out that I couldn't deliver.
I've sold a few other things on gumtree but have also experienced a hugh number of people who don't turn up. They phone up all polite and say they are on their way and I end up sitting waiting for nothing.0 -

I have put the items up at considerably less than the ebay completed listings would suggest they are worth. I was just desperate for some room and don't have time to list them on ebay, wait for auction to end and wait for payment etc.
The last batch of items I put on Gumtree had exactly the same result. I did sell one item but put the rest into storage and listed them on ebay later and made considerably more money that I would have done if they had sold on Gumtree. I may have to do the same this time, but i have issues with my outside storage company and had hoped to clear all this so I can give up my unit and move to a smaller one somewhere else.
I#m actually half tempted to squash what I can into storage and take the rest to a charity shop.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Soolin are you using a self storage company or a removal company for storage, a removal companies storage is considerably cheaper but you will not have instant access0

I am using a self storage but even then i don't have full access (one reason I am shopping around). I wasn't aware that I coudl approach a removals place, thanks for the tip I may add that to my things to investigate in the new Year.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have sold big things ok and quickly on gumtree like fridge freezer for a good price as well. I asked slightly more than i expected thinking i will be bargained down but no quibbles. I have also seen on facebook a local group that seems to sell things ok. For example this one http://www.facebook.com/?sk=ru#!/group.php?gid=373093321467 but i am not sure if i want people knowing to much about me just a sell a few bits lol i may need a new id just to sell bits on through there. Is there anything like that in your area?0
