Playing single tracks on iphone

Can anyone tell me how I do this please? If I chose a track it then automatically goes on to play the next one after the one I want. Other than putting each individual track into its own playlist of one I can't fathom how to do this. With my old smartphone with windows media it was straightforward so I'm sure it must be easy with this phone too but can't see how. Have read the guide but it doesn't help and all I can find on the net is stuff from people whose phone will only play one track at a time and they want it to play on. I want their problem!
Thanks

that's the first I have ever heard a music app only playing one song and then stopping, are you sure you weren't just playing the song by going to it through the filesystem and not a music app.
other than that I dont think it is possible on the iphone.0 -
It worked fine through windows media on my old phone, I could just play one track and then it would stop - I can't remember how I did it but it was straightforward and seemed the default choice. No idea as I never wanted to play more than one track in a row.
Surely there's a way - what if you have an e-book and only want to listen to one chapter in bed at night, would it just run on to all the subsequent chapters while you're asleep if you doze off while it's playing? I wanted to play a relaxation podcast the other night but couldn't stop it going onto the next thing on the list which then woke me up! The only way seems to be to make individual playlists but that's a right faff!

is the podcast under the podcast section? because podcasts do normally stop after it has finnished.
if it is under 'music' in itunes then right click and select 'get info' then under options set it to 'podcast'0 -
Thank you, some of them are indeed under music, I'll try your suggestion. Others are already in podcasts, it's a series of podcasts that were originally mailed out once a week but I downloaded them all at once. Although in the podcast section they still run on.
And another faff - why can't I do stuff direct on the phone, why do I have to get my laptop up and running in itunes to make these changes - Grr, not as much in love with this gadget as I thought I was!
Thanks, have now moved everything into podcasts so will give this a whirl.0
