I have been to one...whether they are useful or not depends very much on what level you start from.
My school and sixth form very much encouraged us to do a lot of research on our own, and set a lot of 'univeristy-style' essays, leaving us the library and internet to read through, which was very good practise for university: all I had to alter was where I got my sources from and the sheer volume of reading I had to do.
Even taking into account what I already knew, it was still very useful: they went over how you should go about organising your research most effectively (be it for an essay, presentation, dissertation etc), organising useful study groups within a module by ourselves, general levels of what they expect you to be doing by 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year etc.
All universities are different in what they provide, but if you have the chance to go to one, I suggest you go.One thing...that sets pulses racing...that gets hearts pounding...for which there is no substitute...only YOU can provide...blood.

whats the standard line spacing for essays? Is it double line spaces?
Thanks0 -
1.5 spacing at my university:A Boots Tart :A0

cheers, it doesn't state anything in my department handbook either as to what it could be.0

Our department calls 1.5 line spacing double spacing which is just silly. Either 1.5 or double line space is fine though - I prefer 1.5 usually - saves paper!

Cheers lellie, i myself think it looks better 1.5 than double.0

at my university you can request a style guide which lists clearly what the layout procedures are as will as bibliographical referencing and foot note referencing guidelines. its a staple for me.... dont know if all unis do this, mine is clearly labelled 'english department kings college london':A Boots Tart :A0 -
Will enquire about that tomorrow thanks0

i know that when you write your conclusion you are meant to say what you have wrote but how do you word it? it sounds a stupid question i know but this is really getting to me and i don't want to give up tonight until its done?
Any help would be really appreciated..

a sweeping revelation usually helps, or some kind of tenuous link to the present day or even a little joke is sometimes approate like 'despite all this we must bare in mind that taming of the screw was written 500yrs ago and that any such play written today would be strictly left at the fringe or in the male imagination!'
i had a consultation with my tutor who told me to never repeat what i had previously said again. i have a problem with my essays sound repeatative.:A Boots Tart :A0
