  • The only Islands where US Dollars are sometimes problematic are the French ones. All the others are No problem at all.

Reception will advise you the best currency for the islands you are visiting and will provide the currency for you and charge it to your cabin.

We found exchange rates as good as the High Street and you don't get charged cash advance fees on the credit or debit card you register before you sail as currency goes against the cabin as an item of expenditure.

You definately will pay a charge, all Carnival cruise lines will charge 3%, which is more than a ATM.
All other vary slightly but YOU will pay a transaction fee.

A quick tip - take an extension lead with you for charging up camera's mp3's etc. (My camera charger won't fit in their sockets as there isn't enough clearance below the socket and the desk.)

Tip for Princess Cruises. There is an additonal socket below the tv plug

Thirded re Cruise Critic. I go on CC whenever I am on a cruise. There are three types of forum you should look at. The first talks about the cruise line and their ships, so you can ask questions about the onboard facilities etc. The second talks about the destinations and people will have posted questions about how to get around. The third allows you to meet other people on the same cruise and plan shared trips etc.

You can definitely use dollars on the islands, but try not to take too large denomination bills.

P&O charged NO transaction fee whatsover for foreign currency transactions - they make money by varying the sell and buy rates, just as any Bureau de Change do.

The only fee on P&O is for cash advances at the casino.
