I have long since considered making the move to Mac from Windows. Is Vista going to be that great, great enough to prevent me from going to use a Mac at home?

Depends, dunnit? What do you expect to get from a Mac which you don't currently get from XP?0

Impossible for anybody but yourself to answer. But have a look at the Vista site for a run-down of features and capabilities0 -

Can a Mac do anything better than a PC? I heard that some magazine tested windows vs Mac and found windows better in every test.Happy chappy0

They did an equivalency test on the Gadget Show one or two years ago, off the shelf pc versus a mac, either they were the same price or same specs, can't remember which, I think the PC beat the Mac at everything, even photoshop processes which was a big surprise for the mac fanboys. At the end they dropped both off the balcony and see which could be repaired/replaced cheaper. PC was just a matter of replacing individual components (total of about £80), in fact very few, many survived. The mac was done for as you could only get it repaired through Apple and they were charging over £500 for the priviledge."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Why not just use BootCamp? Ironically, Vista runs best on Macs at the moment as Apple have done all the drivers.0

The Gadget show can talk alot of !!!!!!!! at times!! I remember their film vs digital comparison where they had a digital and film print a couple of storeys high. One of the reasons why they thought the digital print was better was because it was softer and made the presenter look slimmer!!
I use both Macs and PCs everyday even though I am a native pc user(love gaming!!)
I have used G3s,G4s,G5s and even the latest iMacs and Mac Pros. For work purposes they are great;very stable and speed is NOT an issue with Photoshop despite all the crap being propagated. Also OSX seems to run equally fast on both the latest Macs and even much older ones.Everything seems to just work properly and rarely need to ever reboot them even after updates unlike MS Windows.
However I find that pcs are better for gaming and have a wider library of free programmes available. They also cost less in the long run and are easier to upgrade and muck around with!
Linux is good but is not entirely point and click and sometimes you need to use the command prompt/window.0 -

That was PC Pro BTW. It was comparing Vista to OSX. For the average person either will be good enough.0 -
I'm pretty !!!!!! off with Microsoft's latest adventure. I don't play games so have no reason to have a graphics card bigger than 128. Seems their new Vista recommends you have 512. Now I know it's only a recommendation but it's still wound me up. I think I'll be sticking with a 32 bit processor and XPThis country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0

I will only be upgrading to Vista eventually since there maybe a few game I may like. However I cannot justify the cost of Vista just for this and the perfomance hit in other applications. How come OSX on Macs can look pretty but for most normal applications can run relatively well on less than the latest hardware??0
