O2 Wireless box as plain modem?

I used to have a VM modem (cable) connected to my own Netgear RP614 router.
I had several custom settings for port forwarding etc.
I'm now on O2 LLU and have a Thomson TG585 v7.
I've got everything set up and working O.K.
The problem is that I want to tweak some port numbers, this involves having to unassign the service, alter things and then reassign.
It then takes an age to update, then I've found it doesn't always 'forget' the old settings, so have to do it again.
Also not all devices along with relevant info can be seen at the same time.
The Netgear had a much better interface with everything laid out in the form of a table, with all info on display, and updating was instant.
The question is,
"How difficult is it to reset the Thomson so that it's just a modem? Then use the Netgear as the main router."
I've had a trawl through the O2 BB forum but not found a decent answer.

Move along, nothing to see.

Well having read your post, I still think the answer is via a geek forum.

My experience of the Thomson Gateway boxes (for business and personal use) is that they are a pile of carp and waste hours of your time!
However, one thing to try with the O2 boxes is to use the superuser account (this is higher than administrator) which will display every option you can play with.
Username = "SuperUser".
The password is the serial number on the bottom of the router. The password may also be "O2Br0ad64nd" if you're on older firmware.0 -

Agree, I'm no expert, especially with ADSL, but the Thomson is probably fine with vanilla setups.
I've tried the SuperUser account, it's the only way to get any stats.
Everything actually works fine, it's just that it's so clunky and slow, I'd like to use the Thomson as a straight modem with the Netgear doing the clever stuff.
Incidentally, from browsing the O2 forums, with regard to speed, it seems that the Thomson consistently works better than Netgear with O2 LLU.Move along, nothing to see.0
