Hi James
I get severe headaches as well from drinking diet coke/ diet Pepsi I find Pepsi gives worse headaches. I dont drink half as much Diet coke as I used to, I used to drink at least 2 cans a day weekdays and 2 2 litre bottles at the weekends. My headaches would last a good few hours even with painkillers
Now I drink very little but when I do I drink Caffiene Free Diet Coke the headaches are none existant with the caffeine free stuff.
if I'm out and they do not have caffiene free I drink ordinary diet coke and know I can only drink 2/3 cans before the headaches kick in.

PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS0 -
Magazines - I used to buy several a month, this as now been cut down to just the one.
Coca cola - Took me quite a while, although after a trip to the dentist i realised how badly this was effecting my teeth. If i drink it now it gives me a headache and makes me feel sick so i cut it out completely.
CD's - Don't buy them so much anymore as i just stick to MP3.0 -
Magazines - used to buy about 10 a month. Now i buy 2 or 3
Going out - used to go out clubbing/pubbing every weekend and spend approx £100 every time. Now its once a month and its £50 max
Petrol - Changed cars and save £50 per month on fuel
All adds up :j0 -
I started walking to work and it has benefitted me in more ways than one:
- Feel less stressful because the 'workout' of walking gets rid of my pent up energy
- When I get to work i feel in control and more awake because of the 30 minute walk
- Iv lost 1 stone in weight
- I can eat what i want without putting on weight now

and finally...
I save about £50 a month plus more on Petrol. Plus what do you normally do when you get petrol? you may buy a magazine or a chocolate bar.
Even though it takes me longer to get home, the 30 minute walk allows me to unwind and by the time i get home, the evenings seem longer.
EDIT: Babes 21 has reminded me... When I feel like purchasing an album now I just purchase a single for 79p from iTunes. This satisifies my music craving so much.

Great question Danielle and thanks for the post Georgiasmum - it sums up how miserable I've felt over the last couple of weeks cutting down having recently realised I'm over £40k in debt(not including my OHs debt)
and that I neeeeeed to stop spending - but on the good side my debts haven't increased over the last fortnight so that keeps me cheerful.
So in the last couple of weeks I've made packed lunches, my OH and I have reduced the family vehicles from two cars to one car and a scooter plus limited the amount of miles we cover, switched credit cards to lower rates and cut them up, only use cash, changed our energy and telecommunication providers, bought clothes for the boys from Ebay (only four sweatshirts for £6.46 including postage), not gone out for meals etc.
The challenge for next week is to stop smoking, drinking alcohol and not going to the pub on a Saturday night for the local gossip - The not going to the pub is going to be the hardest but spent £25 last night that I didn't have
The only other thing I need to stop is Tesco - so it's the local farmers market and Aldi this weekDebt to pay off £22,350:eek:
DFW 204 - Started off £53,670 in debt LBM 2006
I will be in credit one day - one payment at a time0 -

Thanks, although I really meant tips on how to avoid the headaches you get when you go 'cold turkey'.Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345
Debt free 21st Oct 2011.
All thanks to :money:0 -
Try going onto the caffeine free stuff if you find it hard to go cold turkey, I found that it helped with the headaches and it was easier not to drink diet coke as much (if at all) after that.
A friend of mine was addicted to Pepsi Max and was drinking several 2litre bottles a day, she changed to caffeine free diet coke and she doesn't get the shakes and her mood swings disappeared completely.
