E On Representative I need Advice
Options
Hi there,i have never changed supplier so i find it all somewhat confusing.I currently get my gas from E On and recently received a letter advising our Winter plan had finished and we are now on E On energy plan ! i pay £55 per month.
I get my Electricity from Swalec and i pay £38 per month and i have no idea what tariff but i got a letter the other day advising over the last 12 months we had used 3323.50KWH night units and 824.11 KWH day units.
I keep looking at various plans and am grtting more confused, the other day we had a very pushy salesman advising if i changed to another supplier for dual fuel we would save £240 per year. I would prefer to stay with one of my suppliers so i do not have to change both. Please advise, any help would be appreciated

If so then your electric seems to be wrong, you should not be using 3323 kwh at night, and only using 824kwh at the day rate. They seem to be the wrong way round.
On your other question. Ignore the pushy salemen (and women) and do your own research using price comparison sites, entering your annual usage into them and see if swalec or eon come near the top. But before you do that I should confirm your electricity usage is correct.0 -
I have just checked the statement from Swalec and that is what it says ,but i am of the same opinion as you it looks the wrong way round now i think about it.0

Well this is now becoming a problem for me i THINK !,i have never read the meters they are always done by the readers.I have just gone and looked at the meter and it would appear that the readers must be blind because the meter clearly states RATE 1 NORMAL and we are being charged for night units and the low reading which i think is economy 7 being charged at day rate.We have been in the house 10 years but there was a meter change some 3/4 years ago,can anyone advise what the issues are for me and how far they can go back and charge us for,it is clearly an error that is not our fault and we are not to blame.I can honestly say i never read the bills other than the amounts as you will see from my initial enquiry we have never changed supplier0
-
There's no serious issues, just inform the supplier of the error.
They almost certainly won't be into apportioning blame or fault."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Yes but i am very concerned to what the supplier will do regarding the potential bills,i will not know how long the issue has been a problem for ,Possibly three years0

Hi redmalc
The Energy Plan you've been switched to is our standard product. There are many other tariffs available, both with us and the other suppliers which may be better for you.
I'd pop your details on to one of the comparison sites to see all the options available.
The Energy Plan has no tie-ins. Therefore, you are free to change to another tariff/supplier whenever you wish.
Just a quick heads up redmalc. We don't give discount on final bills following a change of supplier; so you may want to time a switch away to lessen the impact of this.
Hope this helps. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

Hi redmalc - At some time in the past a previous owner of your home got fed up with ECO 7 bills and went to the expense of installing Gas C/Heating, and at that time would have informed the Elec supplier who have instead of installing a new 'Standard' meter, elected to charge 'Standard' meter rates -(No Nightrate, but Day rates around 50% cheaper than ECO7) - on the total of the ECO7 meters 2 readings
This 'add together' method is just a note on the account, which more often than not gets lost when there is a change of account holder, which leaves you with Gas CH getting almost no benifit from ECO7's Nightrate, but paying around 50% over the odds for what you use in the Day.
Firstly establish which of your 2 meter readings is the DAY rate by switching everything off during the day, and then power up an Elec kettle to see which meter registers the use.
Secondly report this DAY reading in writing to your supplier, telling them you want a standard meter fitted or your billing based on Standard meter rates, and tell them you want all the power used since you moved in to be charged on Standard meter rates0 -
Once again, total misleading information by dogshome on E7
First of all there is no indication that the previous owner went to the expense of installing GCH.
Secondly there is no indication that anyone has previously asked for a single rate meter
Thirdly, there is no indication that a supplier has previously supplied on a single rate. In fact as the OP says they have never changed supplier, and the current supplier is Swalec then any previous owner would have been supplied by Swalec as their last supplier. Swalec do not supply single rate tariffs with a dual rate meter.
So fourthly, the request for them to do so will be ignored.
Fifthly, once again (and I've mentioned this to you previously!) you make ridiculous comments about the cost of E7. 50% more than the equivalent single rate tariff during the day? Where???
What you really mean is the OP is benefiting from electricity at approximately 50% of the day or normal rate for 7 hours per day ... almost 30% of the day!"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Hi Premier - Please don't tell me what I mean as I know very well, and have the billing data to prove it
In my region, Eastern, my son is on ECO7 with Eon on the best tariff there is from any supplier for the area, and his Daytime power costs just over 50% more than that through my Standard meter.
So far as your Swalec/ECO7 comment is concerned - I always advise posters with this problem to request that past bills are re-issued on Standard meter rates, because the balance of probabilities is that whoever installed the Gas heating would have advised their then supplier to get Standard tariff prices - They have after all spent a great deal of money, so it's unlikely that they would fail to advise thier Elec supplier and be stuck with the ECO7 billing they had spent so much money to avoid.
Whether or not Swalec play ball is not the point as there are quite a few "thank you's" from previous posters who have done as I suggested and had money refunded.
You have often said in previous posts that it's possible to beat the financial odds with ECO7 metering - It would be of help to those who have no other choice than ECO7, IF YOU EXPLAINED HOW YOU DO IT0
