  • Which network are you tied to ? My desire wasn't tied so I sent feedback to HTC and it was done within 36hrs. If you are tied to a contract then zzzzzzzz wait for your Mobile Operator or ask them .

since your orange you have to wait for the update from orange or a OTA update, ive got a desire and ive got the option that will search for updates when connected to the net and it will download and install,

There's custom ROMs for the Wildfire that have Froyo (2.2)

But depends on your network, if they have customised the device then it's a pain to upgrade using a custom ROM.

But according to HTC-UK's facebook page, 2.2 should be out sooner rather than later...(they never give exact time frames!)

They even have a custom Gingerbread (2.3) ROM but it's not that good! (not a lot of things work and it's slow!!)

Modaco or xda are some good sites for custom roms if you get bored waiting, I've had 2.2 on my dell streak since September, o2 released 2.1 around the same time and then pulled their update as it came prerooted, o2 never got round to releasing 2.1 again leaving everyone that had updated to 2.1 with a rom that didn't even tell you if an app had gained superuser access, I had no option but to go to a custom rom to get rid of it. o2 are releasing 2.2 this week think I'm going to give it a miss..:D

All very simple to do, forget branded roms go custom, its alot better, you get updates faster, problems get fixed faster and you get extra goodies

but void your warranty and a lot of the roms are not error free . Probably best left to those who know how and are willing to brick the phone .

Saying that if you are ok with the above dive in the waters warm but i would pesonally wait for the official upgrade then back up your official rom .

Its if the phone is branded not the actual sim that gets the upgrade .

  • I'm planning on getting a HTC Wildfire asap. I don't know much about the whole android thing or the upgrade to 2.2. My sim card is with O2 on contract but planning to get handset only. I'm not sure whether to get a PAYG on Vodafone and they pay to get the phone unlocked or spend another £30 and get a sim free phone. Given the move to 2.2 is one option better than the other in terms of getting this new system?

    Many thanks.
