I have NEVER said "Happy Holidays" to any one! Thought a holiday was when people went away, not eating too much, spending too much and trying to find intersesting ways of using leftover food!!!!!

I totally agree ebayqueen. It really annoys me all this "politically correct" stuff, musn't offend anyone.

Christmas is a Christian celebration. If it wasn't for the fact that we celebrate the birth of Christ on 25 December, then there wouldn't be Christmas or "Happy Holidays" or anything else "they" would like us to change it to.

Can you imagine the furore if anyone dared to suggest to other religions that we change the name (and meaning) of their festivals.

P.S I also hate the word Santa. It's Father Christmas for me too.

Not worth getting worked up about I reckon.

On the one hand. it's seen as an acknowledgement of multi-culturalism and on the other, over zealous political correctness.

Say what you feel and don't get upset by what others want to say imo! After all, tis the season of Peace and Goodwill to all, surely :)

Who's getting worked up about it?

I am merely stating my point of veiw like you have done! I don't feel upset in any way about my point of veiw, only by your patronising remarks.

Yes I agree - and as son says -- its MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

However there were always winter celebrations - so I reckon we'd still be celebrating - Christianity or not - the Romans and others already celebrated the winter solstice.
People have celebrated a "mid-winter" festival for thousands of years. The festivities of feasting, fires and ritual offerings marked the beginning of the return of the sun and longer hours of daylight occurring in the present month of mid December. The festivals were called by many names including the Winter Solstice, Yule, Christmas, and Saturnalia. The Germanic tribes of Northern Europe also celebrated mid-winter with feasting, drinking and pagan rituals.

    Morning Folks

I am so glad that I am not alone !!!!!!

Felt like I was turning into a Grumpy Old Woman:p

Seriously though we are very influenced by americanisms.

People are now doing high fives as normal. I don know about you but its something you would never have seen on a sports field 10/20 years ago. The old saying if its in America it on its way to us!!!

I do feel Christmas is being stripped of what it really is. It is a Christian celebration. Of course not all people are Christian but I think it should still be respected for what it really means.

Consumerism rules in this world and Christmas is of course hi-jacked to encourage all to overspend etc, and we all know what can happen to those of us that are inclined to increase their debts at this time of year.

For me Christmas is primarily the highlight of Advent and its a beautiful loving time for all who believe in the little baby born in a cold smelly outbuilding and that to me is the reality of it. Use this time of year to be kind, and try and help those who have very little.

So heres to a Happy and Holy Christmas and a Peaceful and prosperous New Year.
