Personally I don't know what the fuss is about.
Happy Holidays is a decades old in the USA and has naff all to do with multiculturalism and probably more to do with Thanksgiving being close to Christmas. Even Andy Williams recorded a song called Happy Holidays in the 60's - hardly a time of known for it's multiculuralism :rotfl:
It's just a phrase and a pleasant one at that.
Our Father Christmas isn't even a gift giver but a figure that represented good cheer so I suggest we all stop giving pressies at Christmas if we're going to religiously stick to tradition

I totally agree ffotogirl, and I want to thank you for expressing such a tolerant attitude to differing beliefs and religions, in this season that is supposed to show peace and goodwill to all mankind.

I use Happy Holidays to my students to include all those of other faiths, as although we close over Xmas, others are just having a break. Hanukkah, Eid and Diwali already having been and gone.Noli nothis permittere te terere

Meaning that at this time of year Christians are supposed to be tolerant of everyone?
I always understood that Christians were supposed to be tolerant of everyone at all times (turn the other cheek, I believe the phrase is), but they are not, are they? But as they enter their holiest time of year, I believe they are encouraged to be more tolerant.
As an atheist, though, I may be wrong about all this, in which case, my apologies. And although "Happy Holidays" is teeth gratingly American, it is also wonderfully neutral in application (except for the poor souls who have to work over the holiday period!).

Yule, Christmas, Xmas, Happy Holidays, Winter feastival, what does it matter, people call the fesitival this time of year what ever they wish, sometimes depending on their religious beliefs. The fact is people have been celebrating at this time of year for far longer than the christian religion, but weather christian or other religion or no religion at all, this time of year should be seen as a time of togetherness, family and friends. Any other religious belief associated with this time of year is up to the indivual and their own beliefs, and they are not something that should be force on to others.
I am pagan, I send Yule cards out and wish happy Yule to my friends, in turn I'm wished and sent cards saying Happy Christmas, Xmas etc. from others. I do not get offended, I'm just happy that my friends wish to send me kind wishes at this time in what ever way is approrate to them.
Re Xmas, it's just a short form of Christmas. The X does stand for christ, with the X meaning 'Chi' or the first letter of christs name in greek.
