  • Further to my opening post. I have been reading about these android phones. What interested me is the apps you can download. I like to do a bit of walking with the other half now and then and i heard about a sat nav app like a car sat nav but for people who are walking. I thought that would be quite interesting. At the moment I'm on a p.a.y.g with o2 simplicity. For my use that is fine for me. Now if i got a android phone i could change my p.a.y.g tarriff to include internet browsing just for the month so i could download some apps then change it back the next month to phone minutes and text as i don't want internet use on my phone. However would i have to have internet on my phone to use the apps i have downloaded.
    Any help would be appreciated:beer:

Orange San Francisco, unlock for free and use on GiffGaff for free internet.
  • What an exotic name for a phone. It says on Orange site it's a pay monthly. Would rather stay on o2. i did get a giffgaff sim but what put me off about them was you had to buy credit online i would rather go into a shop for a voucher much more hassle free.
    Thanks for the infor thou

word of warning, some of the apps you would use for POI and walking guides (eg which routes) require a data connection, esp if they use google maps, 2 negatives to this 1. you would require a data addon so the costs don't spiral to the skies and 2. if you cant get a phone signal they are useless.

one way to look is most nokias come with maps built in (so no data) and GPS so is good for walking, I dont think you can download routes but you can save places and use it to show you where to go (eg geocaching or just the pub you want to end up at), most of them even come with free car and pedestrian navigation now, so you can use it for your walk then plot in your home and have satnav direct you home.

You can get a very basic phone for as little as £10, with £10 credit pre-loaded from T-mobile, here.

Thanks for that. I have just found the Alcatel ot 980 it has my tracks built in along with another 19 built in apps. So would i have to have internet included on my payg tarriff if it's builtin.
