Signal seems fine, must be the box or the wiring from the spliter to the box

I'd agree with that, possibly a bad kink in the cable or a bad F connector or as jb say's a bad box, bear in mind that in all likelyhood, the box is a refurb that was faulty, went of to Screen & Clean but wasn't. (Once went thru about 12 Pace boxes on a fault to get 1 that worked)
  • I have been having problems with my Virgin over the weekend due to the really cold weather. (Im in scotland so its been pretty bad the last two weeks)

Try calling 150 instead of 151. I always get some one in UK and they are usually pretty helpful at sorting things out.

It is worth asking if there is a problem in your area as they dont always check this when you report a fault. The recent cold snap and snow can cause the actual cables to become damaged out in the street especially when it thaws out. If the weather has been particularly bad around your area it might be your just unluckly that its happened when you have been connected. :(

Rubbish. The drop cables are flooded with a waterproofing gel that prevents water getting into them. They are also solid core unlike standard co-ax cabling.Any repairs carried out to the cables are enclosed in gel filled sealing kits to make them watertight.
I worked for NTL/VM for over 10 years in the Celtic franchise, which includes Scotland & have never heard of cables getting damaged by cold weather, frost ect.
  • So Spike7451 and all other helpful folk out there I am up and running!
Well engineer turned up today and guess what - the installation was done incorrectly. In the service box outside the house it was identified that the engineer had transposed the cables so that TV was feeding my broadband and broadband was feeding my TV! - How it worked is no ones guess - within 5 minutes problem fixed, engineer came into the house and proved all services as well as making sure that broadband was delivering correct speed - now if they had installed correctly on Friday I would have been a happy customer, just shows you the engineer who installed was not up to the job.

Now joy of joys I have received a feedback form on how the install went. I will be honest and truthful about my experience so that someone else does not experience the shoddy service I encountered.

Maybe he put the splitter on back to front, would explain why one device had a good signal and the other did not.
