DLA and rent

My mother is off work due to a fall a few months back. Had to get a plate and pins put in to some place on her arm.
As a result can't dress herself or cook. Therefore relys on my dad and has to wait if he is on shifts etc etc.
I've said to her to claim DLA as she would get lowe rate care at least as she can't cook.
She asked if geting DLA will effect her finances, I said no. As I'm under the impression DLA not means tested.
Can DLA if you're on no other benefit aid with paying rent and/or reduce Council Tax liability?
Thank you

Not Directly.
However if they are claiming any Means Tested Benefits (such as Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit) it may add a premium (how much depends on the DLA care level awarded) which may increase any Housing Benefit/Local Housing Allowance or Council Tax Benefit payable. If they are not receiving HB/CTB then they can use this site:

to see if they may become entitled.0 -
no mum and dad dont get any help with Rent or council tax. I 'think' they might get Child money, as have a brother at 10, the rest all working. Two still in the house.0

To claim DLA you need to have had the issue for 3 months and expect it to last another 6 months.
What has been said about recovery?

[STRIKE]but is this likely to continue for at least another 3 months, or will her arm improve?[/STRIKE]cross-posted with calley, she knows best ... typing one-handed is slow!
I've just had an unexpected half shoulder replacement and I also can't 'do' top half underwear - the rest of my clothes I can cope with. this is going to continue for at least another month, and after that, who knows?
just on a practical level, I get DH to prepare food I can safely move one handed. your siblings could also help with this, even the 10 yo. we currently have jacket potatoes in the oven with a cheesy mince topping, I'll switch oven on just before he's due home.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Sue, I hope you have a quick and speedy recovery.
My husband has non-fuctioning hand. And I try and gear everything towards making his life easy. e.g buying grated cheese. Keeping ready meals in so that he can have something hot during the day.
Squeezy bottles for squash, red and brown sauce. Tin opener that can be used one handed etc.
My husband now uses dragon software to help with his computer. Made his life so much easier and can be used to browse the internet.
All the best.

it sounds more like an injury that will heal, rather than an ongoing disability for her.
to claim DLA, she must have had care needs for at least 3 months, and expects to hare care needs for a further 6 months at least.0 -
Had at least 3 months, 4 I believe. The consultant said she will not be going back to work for some time. As well as the current issue she has probs with other things that has been aggravted by this. Not in the full picture, however from what I can see she meets the criteria to at least apply.0

if she has other problems and this is just the last straw then by all means she should apply. but as ever she might do well to get help with the forms!
ty for the good wishes calley. I've put shampoo and showergel into pump dispensers so I can almost shower independently! and MIL bought me the most amazing pink back scrubber which seems to have an extra long handle, reaches everywhere!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Pump dispensers sounds like a good idea.
I did toy with the ones you put on the wall, works like the ones in public loos. But they all looked a bit a tacky and very expensive.
It is amazing the work arounds you can find when you need it.
Would suggest if you are one handed, little grippy mats to go under jars. Makes it easier as the jars don't move all over the place.
Also I have a under the cabinet jar opener. Think it came from betterware.
