Stupid Royal Mail

Ordered some toys online for the kids, and as its been a week since I ordered decided I would check on the website to see what stage things are at. It listed the parcel as being sent with royal mail and gave me a link to track it with RM.
The RM site reckons they tried to deliver this morning (the doorbell never went-we have 4 kids someone would have heard or noticed it out of all of us) there is also no card through the door. There are no phone numbers for local delivery offices online, it just keeps directing you to look at the card you got or call some expensive phone line to get the number argghhhh.

Will have to pop up when one of us gets the chance to see if we can pick it up at the sorting office. Bet they never came out at all, or had so many parcels they just took some back undelivered. Good job I am proactive and keep checking all my orders or the kids might have missed out on their pressies (these are main gifts as well not stocking fillers which is why we ordered at start of Dec).

If you type 'Royal Mail' into the company search box, a list will bring up plenty of alternative numbers. Press Ctrl + F on the keyboard and type in your local sorting office to see if it has their number.

I think it's a bit harsh to be so critical of them - especially at this time of year. I mean, every year they have to hire an army of Temps to meet demand for the service around Christmas time.

4 kids and you expected to hear the doorbell? Nah come off it, I only have 2 running around and I cant hear myself think let alone the blooming door being knocked.

Hey it is not the end of the world, I live 7 miles away from my sorting office and I know its a pain but Xmas is 14 days away and you will get your presents before then.

It has been a rubbish 2-3 weeks for any delivery company so lets cut them a bit of slack.
  • Royal Mail are a joke.

Posted 20 cards 1st class post Monday just gone. Some of which were addressed for the same houses (cards to godparents, etc.) and out of those 20, only 7 have been delivered.

Yes, I know snow can affect the post. But, the 2 households that were supposed to receive 2 cards each have both only received one each.
How hard can it be to deliver 2 cards at the same time??

Just complete and utter waste of time. Shame there isn't another service like that available, only better.

There is a better system of course, you can get into your car, get on a bus or train and hand deliver them.

I must be a simple kind of gal because I am still fascinated by the whole logistics of the postal services. To me its incredible. I love the postcode system, I love the fact I can post something "here" and it gets "there" within a week let alone the next day.:rotfl:
  • Really, it's been nearly a week and it's still not arrived. Their website says delivered within 2 days.
But, yes ok I completely see your point, I don't drive so I'll get a train to North Wales, or to Scotland and hand deliver my cards.
Jesus, some people can be so... well, let's not go there.

I'm a girl also, and these "simple" things don't fascinate me like they do you. I guess I must not be as simple.

If I'm sending multiple cards to one address I put them in a larger envelope, together. Otherwise the Law of Sod will ensure that 1 will not arrive on time/at all.

I know your complaint is because some of the cards have got to the address and others haven't - but how many letters/cards/bills do you think Royal Mail handle? It isn't a simple case of empty a postbox and all the contents are sorted into Scotland/Northern England etc - there are multiple stages these things go through and items from postboxes will be split up.

Only way to make sure they all get to the address at the same time would be to put them in the same envelope (As another poster has suggested).

In terms of packets not being delivered - I know that if I'm at someones door, I do knock as loud and as hard as I can - especially if I can hear people in. If there is no answer, it really is because the occupier thinks it's the police or simply doesn't hear the door.
