is it true that ANY bank/building society will give him a basic bank account with a discharge letter? we now have the discharge letter (which says he was discharged in 2006) but Nationwide said thats worthless, they go by the Experian Report. ???

no, it's still down to the individual bank if they want to take a br or ex-br on.. and it seems very hit and miss.

i've got the coop cashminder which is great, but the branch is far away so i'm going to swap it for the basic barclays account. i would honestly just go for one of these, you can pay direct debits, withdraw cash, use a visa card, the only thing missing is a cheque book but it's not very often you'd need a cheque...

If you ask for a letter from the OR's office it will arrive on Insolvency Service letter headed paper, every person I have helped to get one has had it accepted by either Barclays or Co-op. It's also normally processed a lot quicker than applying for a Discharge Certificate.

oh, right, thanks. i think we may go to barclays then, cos the nearest co-op is 15miles away! anyone have any ideas about the post office? hubby thinks he can get an account with them...
With a Coop Cashminder you can use any post office to pay in Q's and deposit/withdraw cash - most other stuff you can do online or on the phone and in my experience they've always been helpful, highly recommended.
If I need to send a 'Q' I'd probably pay the bit extra and use a postal order (as I use the post office anyways!)

hmmm weird. i have signed him up for creditexpert (hubby doesnt do puters) and according to this, he owes over £3k to EGG (loan) as of april 2007, and payments are over 6m late. and he owes £1800 on Max Recovery credit card that we dont recognise, updated 2010 in default. 2 other things show, but they say satisfied.

why the hell are these on there? i remember the EGG loan, but not the max recovery. its a long time ago, so i may well have forgotten it, i'll check thru the bankruptcy papers tomorrow. but regardless, BOTH of these should have been wiped in the 2005 bankruptcy. why are they showing as updated current debts???
his credit score is 629 (poor).

    please help!!

They are there because the firms have not updated your credit file. You need to get the clean up done and then you will find it easier to get an account.

Did you ask for their basic account as that is the one they offer to BR's?

Max Recovery are a company that buy up debts that were included in a bankruptcy/IVA.

The idea is they can buy them up for next to nothing, and they get a return from the small % where the OR/trustee is able to pay something back to creditors.

You need to require Max to mark the debt as settled and with the right date.
