I opened my Coop account over the phone and I'm not even on the elecoral role - I suppose I had enough debt in my name registered at this address for them to easily identify me!!
I agree with all the posts above, he can get a letter from his OR to say he has been discharged and this wouldn't cost anything - even if he manages to open a bank account its a good idea to get the letter for anything else that may come up. I needed one recently, can't remember why, and I was glad I had the letter from OR.

I think what is being said is the court will charge you £60, but the OR's office probabley wont.

what you can get for free is a letter from the OR stating that you have been discharged
What you get paid for from the court is a sealed certificate stating you have been dischargedHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

If it's desperate to cash, you can always take it to a cheque cashing place? They charge a fee of course, but it's a quicker way of getting the cash.0

It would be upto the relvant Bank to decide.
Just because you are discharged doesn't mean you can have any account.
The Co-op & Barclays will give you a basic account (i'm co-op) even without the discharge letter.
Best of LuckI'm no expert, but i'll give you my opinion, my support and my experience. Its all i have.
