to start had sky installed in may 2010
only put tv on. ( didnt pair card )
had no phone to call them so used mobile £9 call to pair card
phone 3 weeks later ( didnt assign a number to it, num 000000 )
no phone called them and also bt who installed line ( mobile again £16 )
broadband installed 3 weeks later, no connection for a onth due to bt not connecting it at the box or something.
then the issues started lol
after a week sky+hd box died, engineers came out ( avs contactors )
they put new box in. they didnt pair card with box, more calls.
phone line stopped working 2 weeks later, engineers came out and found the line had been cut where they had been doing work.
the sky box wouldnt connect to any of the pay per view ( they handt done the wire to phone line )
avs contrators came out and gave me a length of wire, with the ends on and said if you want box office run this wire from box to the phone line in the hall way.
they cleared off.
i called there office after getting number from sky, and told them they said they would send engineers back out to sort.
i have a new born baby in house with wires across my lounge.
they came out 3 days later and fixed it to skirting.
found out they put the wire in door gap so when closed door it damaged the door and wire.
there manager came out after few days of moaning, he said they would cover damages etc.
i told sky of this and told them i dont want them back in house.
few weeks later bo lost signal. guess what the same engineer came out to sort. i let him get on with it as sky dont have anyone else in area, he came in sorted the signal out etc. as he walked otu door he dropped his tool box on my floor in my hall. its a vinyl floor only been down 2 months.
tore the floor. made a complaint to sky, they passed on to avs contractors to investigate, guess who came out to investigate, the engineer.
called sky complained told them i was leaving, they offered some oney for door which they did send pretty quick.
and half price deal on my total package for 6 months and if the problems with floor handt been sorted by the end of 6mth they would renew deal for another 6 mths.
well its not sorted and no deal been added.
took me over hour on phone today to sort out and they had no record of this every being said. lol
so i told the enough is enough i want to leave.
they got manager on phone and he gave me everything half price again for 6 mths.
i advise people to get names when on phone. so far im out of pocket by £300 for the damages etc but have saved on the sky bill

I have heard some bad things about companies like *** ect, sure when I worked for Sky,I was sent to a service call to move a dish. The dish was at head height on the front wall, the was a Sky installer who was out the day before & told the customer it wasn't his job to move the dish,he wasn't paid to do it so he'd rebook it for the right person,ME!! Next day when I went into the office I pulled the first installer in earshot of the manager.
(Thing was,we both got paid the same & worked for the same crowd) That installer later got the sack for an unrelated matter.
I sympathise with you dazzadub. The are some real cowboy's out there with little or no work ethics who give us all a bad name. And please don't call them engineers, they're trained monkeys..I'm an engineer because I am eminently more qualified than 90% of Sky installers. The training I did when I went to work for Sky after redundency from VM was just over 2 weeks, including on the job training. The training I did when I started at NTL to become a cable installer was 3 months, even more to become a service tech.
The reason you kept getting the same installer is Sky/VM (VM for certain) have a 28day window for faults.(mainly for contractors but used for all) If no fault is reported in the 28 days, all well & good & the contractor gets paid with no impact on KPI'S,bonus ect.If the is a fault within the 28 days, usually the same installer is sent out to rectify his fault.Once that is done, the 28 day window starts again. The more repeat fault's,the more it impacts on the KPI's which affect bonuses ect (Us NTL/VM Service Tech's worked on a 7 day fault basis)
And no,don't get the persons name, get their Chordiant ID Number. Some people in the call centers use false names, especially foriegn workers.0 -
