Oh, DH You did't kill her, you released her from suffering, and you were the last person she saw. Please don't feel guilty. I had to go through this three times in two years. It was heartbreaking as they were as important in my life as my children are.

Remember, she is at peace now, free from pain. She knew she was loved, and in time you will start rememering all the good times and love you had together.

    Big (((HUG))) to you.

I know exactly how you feel too, i went through this last year and though i still miss her so much i know it was the kindest thing.
Just remember all the great times you had and what a great life she had with you and your family, it sounds like she had a lot of love in her life :) who could ask for more.

Time is a healer and i did get another dog who brought lots of happiness back to the house.
  • God terribly sorry to read this, your wee one new how much you loved them. I have been through this heartbreak many times before and the void they leave is horrendous. Sending you a big hug x

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

I realise it is not much of a consolation but you did do the right thing. I was very upset when I had to have one of my dog's put to sleep, and I felt exactly the same as you - that I'd killed her - but I think the best thing you can do is just remember how much joy your dog brought to you, all those good times... and realise how little of a life she had before you made the decision and hopefully it will help you because as a loving owner the last thing you wanted was to see your girl suffer.
  • Big hugs your way! :(

    Xmas Saver!
I am so so sorry for you loss, we had to have our spaniel pts last yr, he was a week of his 14th birthday, we had been living on borrowed time, he had cancer, and then his back end went, I remember the look in his eyes, as if to say please let not suffer.
I know it may feel like the hardest thing in the world esp this time of the year, but remember you rescused her, you gave her the most wonderful life, you gave her love, companionship, and she gave you love in return.
I know its hard to think, but you did the best for her, the fact that you stayed with her, she will have that in her heart, you where with her most when she needed you.
The house will feel empty, but I bet you, she'll be back in her own way, your see something that reminds you of her, time is a great healer, the pain doesn't go away, but it doesn't hurt as much, remember the good times, her funny little habits.
I know my spaniel (whisky) he's on the pic with my daughter, I always remember bringing her home from hospital, I came in first to see him, then brought my daughter for him to sniff, he curled himself around her and from that day forward they were inseperable.

For us, we were lost without a dog, I'd grown up with them, and I knew that we would never get another Whisky, but we have the most beautfiul spaniel, hes 18mths old now, called Bailey, and he has soon had everyone twisted round his little finger.
I still think about Whisky, like your dog she was a strong part of your life, remember the good times, maybe in time your be ready for another dog. But what we found helped us, we crocheted some blankets, and took them to the local RSPCA kennels, to help another dog out.

You take care, cry when you need to, there part of our family. xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • Thank you all again for your kindness, it makes me feel better reading your posts and knowing there are people who understand. The house is very empty and we are all sad but just remembering the good times and how it felt when I used to stroke her head and she had a little crinkly bit of fur on her nose that never sat straight which I used to tickle for her. She used to feel the cold and I made her no end of jumpers to wear.

    Thanks again x
