My husband i just give each other suprises, why would you feel like you had to choose your own present? are you saying that if you don't tell him what you want, he just gets you nothing? i would hate choosing my own things, there is no suprise if you know what you are getting!!

That is exactly what happens - and I would love a surprise.

  • The same with me. Hints don't work and if I don't tell him exactly what I want he doesn't get anything or buys some more perfume that I already have.

Do you have any favourite films or albums you own on vhs/vinyl/tape that need replacing as blu-ray/dvd/cd/mp3?

I've noticed people normally ask for new releases and forget things they've already got but can't use

I would be deeply unimpressed with my husband if this happened. As it is, he doesn't necessarily get me a present for Christmas or birthdays and sometimes gets me presents for no reason at all. I love it as it's always a surprise and it's generally because he's seen something that he's knows I'll really like or want.

If it's a case of telling him what you want and he'll buy it, why not just get him to give you the cash? You could go one further and deduct the amount he would spend on you from the amount you would spend on him.

I think thats terrible!! my husband always gets me really lovely things, i would hate not to get surprise presents!
  • I had this problem on my birthday & in the end we agreed that our present to each other would be a night in a hotel in London. We each paid £50, managed to find a 5* hotel on lastminute and it was absolutely fabulous, so nice to go out and not worry about getting home etc. Best present ever, i'd highly recommend it if you can get someone to watch your kiddies for a night.

WOW! Some really thoughtful suggestions here......I particularly loved Daisymoos, as I'm always having problems with swapping bags and leaving purse/fone/lippy/spot concealer/something behind?!!
Also, just struck me! THE answer for when you're in a rush and you need to empty your valuables out of your bag quickly into a locker or desk drawer for security! defo going on my santa list!

I'm one for not knowing what I want on special ocassions, as I'm really cheap to run and not very needy (unless its mega expensive, out of my league sort of taste that is....;)!) but recently I experimented with some new fragrances courtesy of a really patient perfume counter assistant.......and it's surprising how rejuvenating it can be to get out of the fragrance rut a lot of us unwittingly slip into?!

Instead of absolutely no comments.......I now get exclaimations of "OH! You smell gorgeous!......which always boosts me and is well worth the time spent seeking out fresh fragrances that suit my skin! and don't forget to ask for the body cream and bath foam, afterall a girl must 'layer' if she's going to get the best from a fragrance?!! :D

    Good Luck and Happy Christmas!

Thank you all for your replies and great ideas.

I have been having a good think too and realised I don't wear my earrings cos it's impractical as DD would pull them, so I could do with a nice pair of stud earrings to wear all the time.

Last weekend I painted my nails for the first time in about 4 years but I only had 1 almost empty bottle, so some new ones would be nice.

My socks have holes in and I don't have any slippers!

I really love the handbag organiser but might save that for birthday as I like to get lots of bits for Christmas.
