Its not that she cant be trusted shes 9 years of age!!!! I was merely asking if anyone else had experienced the same problem. I was concerned that she would be downloading books and not realising the cost to me.The account holder will be notified of any purchases and has the right to cancel any book within 7 days. If she cannot be trusted to order sensibly, cancel the book and confiscate the Kindle.0 -
You could always get a wifi only kindle and turn it's wireless off.
Then she would have to plug it in to a PC to download books...Laters

I must have misunderstood. Also she can order any adult books with no restrictions in place. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

Its no restrictions in place on your account and as an adult they cannot prevent you from such .
If you are allowing another person to use the account its not like a library where you are face to face .
Something that may be against the terms and conditions especially given age of 9years old .
Might be worth looking to see if their is a children's section where adult stuff is not available but that may be a future plan if kids start using the product .

I think Amazon has developed it first as an adult product but it obviously appeals to younger readers and as the OP points out without some sort of restrictions on what can be downloaded it isn't suitable for a child to manage the downloads. Ideally Amazon will develop children's accounts with age rated content that you can set as desired, I wouldn't be happy for my nearly 10 year old to download books herself even from a gift card, I would want to be sure they were appropriate.
Its not that I think she would deliberately choose inappropriate material but deliberately or accidentally the result would be the same. My daughter has a itouch and when she wants to download anything she has to ask me to put in my account password even for free apps.
I love my kindle.0 -

If its via credit card probably illegal use likewise any form of account where a third party has use of the account .
