Hi hope someone may be able to help me . I have just purchased an Amazon Kindle for my 9 year old daughter(she loves books). The thing that worries me is it is registered to me (as she does not have a credit card) so she could order whatever she wanted and the money is debited from my card straight away. Also she can order any adult books with no restrictions in place. I have contacted Amazon who have advised there is nothing they can do. I want her to have the Kindle but would just like it to ask my permission(via email) if the book can be purchased and debited from my account. Has any one else had a similar problem am sure a lot of people will be buying Kindles for their children/teenagers. Has anyone found a solution to this.

I've been thinking of buying one too and reading a lot on the Amazon Kindle forums.
I think this question came up on there and someone suggested to set up a separate account exclusively for the Kindle, but not to link a credit card to it and fund it via Amazon vouchers. It seems a bit long winded and awkward, but could be a way round it, unless Amazon get their act together and sort this issue out - it seems a common issue and surely would be simple enough to solve? Not sure if that would work but worth a look.0 -
Can you not buy your daughter a pre-paid credit card and link it to an Amazon account. That way it would act like a pay as you go phone, when she's used up all the credit she can top it up herself.0

It's an automated service, it can't possibly run on manual email permissions-and anyway how secure would that be? Your daughter could simply answer 'yes' to the emails in your name, how would Amazon know?No free lunch, and no free laptop

I've lent my Kindle to my son while he waits for his to arrive so can't check my docs (they're on the Kindle) but I think you can de-register it and re-register as needed. I'm not sure if that would impact the DRM for the books on it though...
Failing that assuming it isn't the 3G one just change your WiFi password so it can't connect.0 -
No commercial service of any kind would be run on that basis, people would endlessly be ordering things and then denying that they had given their permission. Do you really think that your daughter can't access your email if she wants to?
Presumably you can password protect the account so that she can't access it, but has to get you to order whatever she wants. No free lunch, and no free laptop

why not get a pre paid card credit card and top that up with money that way if there is no money on there your daughter cant use it
i have one and i have to say its brill totally love it and addicted to it
the battery life is great and you get the book within seconds i also bought a night light reader so that i can read at night which is great
you get the emails though after you have ordered the book and accepted it for payment so you cant as as far as i can see not able to prevent her from ordering anything if the card is registered to the kindle
if you dont use amazon a lot just de register your credit card on it and your daughter wont be able to use it to get the books that probably the easiest way
or you could open up an account on amazon for your daughter and you could send buy gift vouchers on your account give her the number of the gift voucher to put in her amazon account so that she could use to buy books
from the website

I bought myself one and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it can be de-registered from myself and then re-registered to another account holder.
It's a fab toy though, I downloaded loads of free books like Darwin's theory of evolution and I'm hoping for time off work over christmas and I'm going to read every single word! :beer:Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

The account holder will be notified of any purchases and has the right to cancel any book within 7 days. If she cannot be trusted to order sensibly, cancel the book and confiscate the Kindle. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.
