Thanks guys - still waiting for the call back from the named "Officer in Case" (sounds strange!) but the paperwork all looks in order - number/address match up... I'll let you know what happens.
Just don't want to lose the ol' banger!0 -
What number did you use to phone them. Or is the one on the letter the same as the website?0

Hi all
Finally spoke to the BTP, who have arrested the guy that sold me the car for fraud. He used railway property for executing a scam. I've promised not to disclose any more than that but otherwise I've nothing to worry about - the car itself, and the transaction is largely legitimate but his cover story less so, but that doesn't really matter.
Thanks all for your input! Now I'm just wondering how on earth I'm ever going to get this thing through its MOT!0 -

You agreed to meet a bloke at a railway station car park to buy a car?
Well that shouted scam from the start. How many warnings do they have to give about meeting the seller at the registered address if the car?0 -

Where did the OP say he bought it in a carpark? There are thousands of Garages and car dealers on railway property.;)0 -
Indeed, at least at a registered address (where you actually have to knock on the door/go inside to do paperwork etc) you have somewhere to go and brick the windows....or send the police to if it's a ringer, if it turns out to be a lemon/stolen etc...Even better at a stealership. You agreed to meet a bloke at a railway station car park to buy a car?

If the car had been stolen I really wouldnt bother as although you paid for the car , it is not yours . It is the original victims. I suspect this will be passed onto the local constabulary where the victim lives . However Im not 100% certain of that . BTP are funded by the railways and transport authorities, so they may hand the investigation over. However as there are 2 crimes involved here , ie theft of motorvehicle and a fraud and 2 potential victims im not 100% sure.ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0 -

If it's a BTP case they'll be investiaging this and see it through. If however it's part of a bigger picture, then the local Police at best, will have a large role to play in the investigation. From what I gather, this is mkore than just a one-off offence with regards to this happening in station car parks. If it was a one-off sale in a station car park, they'd be more likely to hand it over I'd imagine. It also depends whether there's more to the fraud aspect than meets the eye. For example, were the trains used in some way to tranfer monies etc?
I don't think the OP is at liberty to say, if indeed they actually know, due to this being an on-going case, though.0 -
The car isn't stolen though. If it was stolen the Police would wouldn't have written a letter, they'd have just come round and taken it off the OP.0
