How can i get rid of BT

Hi ,
i believe i was originally mis sold by BT and now i am stuck with an expensive broadband contract for only 10gb a month when i use over 40gb, BT are now charging me on average an extra 30£ a month for my over usage.
i have found much cheaper companies, talk talk for one who can supply 40gb.

in a nutshell i had a new line from BT as the old one was disconnected. during the phone call for re connection they asked me if i needed internet. i said YES as i assumed they meant had to just open the line for internet, after returning from working abroad i found that BT had installed broadband! i told them i hadnt actually said yes to them supplying broadband but they said they must have gone through all the terms and conditions etc on the phone at the time they didnt however, i would not have agreed to bt broadband , i hate it.

any advice on what to do, i didnt phisically sign a contract they said that was not necessary so they dont have my signature is this legal???

a friend told me to just get a new supplier and ignore the bills from BT , my credit file is shot anyway do it wouldnt make any difference i need to get rid of them as i cant afford it. any advice on whether the so called verbal contract thing is legal.

thanks

  • I have just come from Talk Talk to BT after many years of disconnections etc dont do it. You must have known that 10gb was not good for you when you signed up only thing to do is try and alter your package to suit your requirement.

Hi Thanks for that, i know that 10gb is no good for me but i didnt actually order broadband with BT as far as im concerned they just connected it, i signed nothing. they told me i asked for it but i didnt and would never have. i had been with AOL for a long time until BT disconnected my phone line. it was when i re connected that this trouble began i did not ask for broadband, they sent a letter confirming it wass going to be switched on but i was away for nearly a month and it was already done when i got home grrrrrrr i hate them. any increase in tariff will be way over my budget so i need a cheaper tariff for more allowance

First question has to be how long are you in contract with BT how much longer to go .

Assuming you still have some months to go then the route is to pay the remaining total balance up to end of contract . Then find a different ISP with what you want .

Alternative is to write a letter to BT explaining you have been miss sold a product and see what becomes of that . Letter not email as you want it to go to the head of sales or similar not some dogsbody .

, i didnt phisically sign a contract they said that was not necessary so they dont have my signature is this legal???

You dont normally sign anything for internet and would have the normal cooling off period to cancel .

When you unbox and plug the router in you accept the contract. You can change to a higher allowance package if you want to stay with BT Option 2 also called More Broadband and calls is £17.99 per month and has a 40gig limit. The unlimited package is £27.99 per month including unlimited calls or £24.99 just for the broadband. The exit fee you will have to pay to leave broadband is I believe around the £50 mark.
