    Always public transport.

For many people the public transport network in this country is not suitable for work or just generally doing what they need to do.

The responsibility of that lies with the where the person chose to work/live.

Your right,no easy option either way, trouble is UK refining is heavily weighted towards petrol production so should really be cheaper at the pump.

And what if they have to travel to more than one destination in a day for business?? And it's not always possible to find jobs for you and your partner, siblings work, schools, collages etc....

abaxas, your simplistic take on life's complex issues is almost comical. You had this one the other day:

I have no issue with old people dying due to coldness providing they deal with the situation. If they dont move to a home designed for their needs, why should we care? It's not out responsibility to help those who dont help themselves.

Life in the abaxas household must be lovely and simple. Pensioners dying of cold because they can't afford heating? Simple, they should move. People can't afford petrol and the public transport network can't help them? Simple, they should move. What next? People are subject to attacks on their home by gangs? Simple, they should move. People living in cities where sewage is overflowing from drains? Simple, they should move.

Of course, there's no grey area here, both the issue of pensioners dying in their home and people being pushed to the limit because of record petrol prices can easily be solved by just a few simple actions. If only people knew.

Abaxas has given you his pearl of wisdom: you just need to move. Simple.

You could buy shares in a company in order to hedge against your travel costs. Shell, for example, are up about 13% over the last year and pay a nice dividend.

You'd always fill up at Shell then and at least you'd know that you were getting a bit of money back each time you filled up.
