New basic state pension

I think it's correct insofar as you only get it for complete years - we switched our Child Benefit claim so DH could get some HRP when he wasn't earning and I was, but I think we bodged the timing ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

Yes, that is correct; you can only get it for complete tax years.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
That is why I did not have a complete NI record when I retired - a combination of paying married woman's stamp for a while ( and nobody told us then that it would n't qualify us for state pensions), working part time, changes in the law/regulations. So no HRP for me, so I do not get a full state pension.
I was able to earn a good salary and save in my last 7 years of work, so have an occupational pension and a small annuity from my AVCs + savings.
A few more years of work would have put even more money into those three pots, so I would be even better off if I had to work to age 66 - but Heaven forbid! I am glad I was able to retire at 60 - I stayed at work till I was 62, but am SO glad I could choose to stop when I did. I enjoy retirement.0
