er feel a bit silly here - please be kind
my pc has my itunes account installed and it is synced with my ipod. the pc stopped working and is going in for repair and i think they will restore to original condition - losing all my data. the itunes library is of most concern to me. is there any way of backing up the library when the pc won't function or can i transfer my library back onto the pc when it is returned to me?
i know i should have backed up before but i foolishly tried to reformat an external drive and messed it up. never got around to finding out how to fix it.

silly question how do you mean your computer has stopped working? ie whats awrong with it?
and please tell me you are not taking it to PC world to be fixed
other than that if you have all your songs on your ipod you can use another program (not itunes) to get the songs off you ipodDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Generally yes, you need to take the hard drive out of your PC and hook it up to another one somehow (caddy / cables hanging out the side of a working PC etc etc). just grab your itunes folder and check all your stuff is in it -should be quite big size wise too.
Be sure to 'undock' / shutdown the drive properly too to prevent any corruption if it hadn't finished copying everything.
If you wipe everything you cannnot redownload anything from apple, you'll have to repurchase.
If you have the stuff on your ipod you can perhaps find some specialist freeware to rip it back onto your PC but although possible this is not supported by apple (ie they'll basically tell you its impossible)0 -
What's wrong with the PC?
Cannot emphasise enough - unless you know and trust your repairer, do NOT meekly hand over your hard drive without taking some action yourself.
Find another computer, take the HDD out of the one we're talking about here, and hook it up to the other computer, and use Explorer to browse it and get your data off it.
There's an abundance of guidance out there on the internet. Make use of it, not just this forum.0 -

it won't boot up, nothing appears on the monitor and the power indicator doesn't light up. I can feel that something is spinning inside the case though.
not going to pc world, it is a medion so it is going back to them under warranty.0 -
do you get anything on the screen when you try to start it for example the initial white writing on the black background? or is it totally blank?
do you have access to another computer and are you comfortable opening the case up which is usually very easyDrop a brand challenge

oki doki, this just means you will have to take your hard drive out to get your stuff of then, this is easy enough generally,
so is your computer a laptop or a desktop?Drop a brand challenge

Sounds like PSU failure (or failing)-though if it had gone completely the fans or hard drive would not spin up.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
