Some routers have a wire which is sometimes set aside for wired console gaming. If you have an Ethernet cable spare, try and see if you have a free port. If that is not the case, you will need a wireless usb adaptor.formerly mrmilo690

what equipment do you have, and what are you trying to achieve, File sharing between the PC and laptop? Can they both get on the internet at the moment?
How is the PC connected to the router, ethernet cable? If you have a PC wired with ethernet to a wireless router, and a laptop with a wireless dongle connected to the router, you don't need another wireless adapter for the PC.

thanks for replies. So i am back to square one then Albertross!!! No idea what to do now then. You are correct in saying that the desktop is connected via ethernet to a wireless router, and a laptop with a wireless dongle connected to the router. The laptop picks up the desktop and the desktop connects to the internet, but cannot access the internet on the laptop! Does that make sense.... WHERE NOW!!!!!0

What type of router is it. On your laptop double click your wireless connection icon (usually on the bottom of the screen near clock)
select the support tab and tell us what is written there0 -

The laptop should connect to the router not the desktop. You need to follow the steps in Albert's first link above. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Well the set-up will be very similar to the step by step guide in the link above, which happens to be for a Netgear wireless router. Follow the guide and refer to your Speedtouch User Guide when necessary. If you get stuck, post back and you should get the necessary help that you need. It only has to be done once and then it's set-up. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Check the router to make sure your IP is assigned by DHCP0

Could have been a firewall or anti virus issue when setting up originally. I would unisntall the hardware and follow the step by step instructions HERE
I have nothing better to do!!!!
