Need to edit Adobe PDF - but don't have Acrobat

Anyone got an idea of a tool that can open up PDF's and let me save them in a more "editable" format.

Free/ Low cost preferred

Not easy without Acrobat but have a look at this thread for alternatives:

If it's not too big a document, and mainly text. Print it, then scan it in OCR, save it as a "Word" doc and off you go !

There are alternatives to Acrobat that will let you do this, but I don't know of any free ones. There are several, such as PDF995 that will let you create a PDF, but not edit one already made. If you can't get hold of the original document, and must edit the PDF , PDFCreator can do this and costs only about £45, as opposed to the £250 or so for Acrobat. Bear in mind that even if you edit it (and this applies to Acrobat too), you'll probably lose much of the formatting - for instance, if you use the Text tool to insert text, it'll just shove the rest of the text further to the right instead of moving it down to the next line; basically, if you need to change this document greatly, but still want it to look more or less like it does now, you'll need to change the original and generate a new PDF.
