I came across this interesting little item...

The correct CE mark is based on using half of each of two adjacent circles. While the China Export letters are the same shape - they are closer together. Also the middle bar of the E on the China Export mark is longer than the one in the CE.
Sneaky though, innit?

I'm thinking of possibilities at this time of year where parents buy a cuddly toy for their younglings thinking that it is safe...

Thanks for posting. Not something I would have thought about normally, but good to know.0

It's a myth.
I'd post the links to prove it, but apparently, as I'm a new user I can't!0 -
As Ayrshore said, this is an urban myth which the OP has fallen for.

My apologies.
I have passed on the link given above to the website that I quoted in the first post. Let's hope they withdraw the page.
The page is dated 07/12/2010 which is getting close to three years after the parliamentary question link (Jan 2008). That date "could" be American style, I suppose - but the site is a UK one.

I have no worries about the China Export mark. My local emporium is full of bargains from that nice country.
Shame their Nobel Peace Prize winner was not able to attend her award ceromony this day.0
