İs 2mb enough for home pc?

İ am looking for a cheapy home pc that has enough 'power' to do basic stuff and deal with my wife's need to do some of her work at home(she is a school teacher and does prep with some art etc -is 2mb enough?-

Also-i live in Turkey where imported computers are overpriced-does anyone know about casper or exper computers which from the price must be produced in turkey-and any tips about processers to look for or avoid?

İ am no expert as you might tell!!

2mb of what? Dont really understand casper or exper?
  • 2 Mbit download isn't a lot. It's the upload which you should be more concerned with if she will need to send stuff back to school because having only 2Mbit down, the upload is likely to be quite low.

Avoid Intel P4's and early Celerons based upon the P4. They heat up like crazy and use large amounts of power.

Intel Core 2's, or newer i3, i5 & i7. AMD K10 Cores. See these links and anything further down the page for details

  • Mb wont really matter unless your downloading movies/Youtubing and/or gaming.

You could even get away with a wireless dongle!

I think the OP is talking about RAM and means 'is 2GB of RAM enough?'
OP what OS are you using?

The post meant to say that Intel Core 2's, or newer i3, i5 & i7. AMD K10 Cores are OK and it's only the P4's and early Celerons that were poor.

2GB ram should be ok for a home PC on any operating system.

2GHz clock speed on most types of processor other than P4 or early Celeron would be OK too.

Disk you should look for 250GB upwards depend on intended use (lower capacity disks will be poor performers too).

Consider using Ubuntu Linux on low grade hardware as it is more efficient than Windows.

Seeing as the P4 and equivalent Celerons were discontinued around 2006 when the Core2 CPUs were released, I think you'd be hard pushed to find one on the new PC market.

Althought Ubuntu and Linux are good Operating Systems, they are not really intended for novice users, especially without any prior training or experience in using it. Non-technical people struggle to get along with Windows, let alone a completely different OS.

We're talking Turkey here, so anything is possible.

Anything from a Core 2 and up for Intel or AMD K10 CPU's which will be cheaper. AMD uses the same names for it's CPU's, such as Athlon II but different revisions with different speeds and power requirements. AMD CPU's are fine and would be cheaper than Intel and for the OP requirements would be more than sufficient. It's only when you get high end that Intel is the preferred option, at a price!

An AMD Athlon II dual core or one of AMD's tri core CPU's would be sufficient. The AMD integrated chipsets are pretty decent and would mean a separate graphics card would not be required which would save money.

    Athlon II X2 210e - 265
    Athlon II X3 400e - 445
    Phenom X3 8250e to 8850
    Phenom II X3 705e to 740
