  • I don't see how i could have got the costs down and kept the quality and the decorations. Each tub of mints/fudge will have cost me around 60p i think and i would have been spending £5-£15 on each person, the sentiment of me making them also costs nothing, as i am giving them as gifts i didn't want to use cheapy cheapy- saying that nothing i bought minus eggs, sugar and butter had alternative value range things.

    off top of my head-

    Peppermint essence-52p
    Red colouring-52p
    Green colouring-52
    x2 bars dark choc (value)-60p
    Icing sugar 1kg- £1.22
    Unsalted butter-£1.30
FREE RANGE LOCAL EGGS- £1.46 - this i do pay more as i don't like battery farms
    Mixed dry fruit-£1.37 own brand
    Condensed miillk-own brand-99p
    Silver balls-77p
    mini cupcake cases x2 (200)-£1.44

the food colouring, silver balls and mini cases wernt essential (i also got some pre made icing christmas toppers that are very cute- £1.36) these i could have deducted but i am giving them as gifts remember :)

oh yeh i got some jelly so make my costs around £12-£13 lol

Actually thinking about it, this time last year my mum was doing the same with a batch of chocolate rum truffles that didn't set :o

My fudge had a crust on top but the middle just wouldn't set. I don't think it was boiled enough. Still I have 2 more pots of cream to try again :o

  • does anybody have any suggestions of different flavours to make? I have been on the website recommended on here and I'm going to get the things I need later but is the one they make plain? does it need to have "things" added to it?
  • Hi!

Yesterday i made nigellas chocolate pistachio fudge, its not fudge per se.....made with condensed milk BUT it is delicious :) i keep it in the freezer...in can be eaten straight from the freezer....but no one else in the house knows that!!
Am a newbie so can't post a link but i'm sure it can be googled!
  • I made my peppermint creams last night and they turned out pretty good :) im goign to attempt the fudge this week.

    my flavour ideas are-

    golden syrup
any mixed dried fruit combos- apricots, cranberries, cherries, sultanas
    white choc
    rum and raisen
    baileys
    strawberry
    dark choc covered

    happy cooking all :) xxx
