I'm not sure this is allowed - I thought only the Police and Insurance companies had access to the database for the purposes of tracing car owners, and it wasn't allowed for Joe Public or random companies.
Does anyone know for sure that could answer this?
Believe it or not, it is allowed. They will give out details to anyone who has a good enough reason for asking for them.0 -
is this 3 hr limit displayed anywhere in car park or store.............never seen one at my tescos though the local morrisions and sainsburys have this notice for no more than 2 hrs but they are in town centre and charge for parking.

tesco's intent is reasonable but, in practise, is full of holes.
A simple solution would be to specify 'No return within 24 hours (or whatever time period they need).
My preferred solution would be to pay for parking at a parking meter. Larger bays could charge more so I could choose a bay where my car is less likely to be damaged by other users.
Two hours is barking. Who shops for two hours. A 30 minute limit might free up some of the aisles, especially at busy times.
I have no problem with DVLA releasing my details to anybody - including car park management companies.

I obtain details of vehicle owners at work - I get full vehicle histories. I investigate insurance claims.
We have recently been told that we need to complete a particular form to obtain the information and to attach a summary of our firm's business to each request for information.
That seems fair enough to me. I was surprised at how easy it was to obtain details of all the owners of a vehicle.

when I applied for a parent & toddler parking badge I had to register my car details to the badge. Maybe the OP has done this and they have updated her clubcard details with the car reg, or she might have some other Tesco service that required vehicle details:coffee:0 -

Even if you registered your car details with Tesco for a badge of some sort, they wouldn't be able to use those details to write to you about parking "offences". In fact, Tesco will use an agent to police their car parks, and they will obtain the details from the DVLA.0 -

I've had one of these letters before and they haven't got my clubcard details linked to my car, unless they are using number plate recognition at the petrol pump and linking it to my clubcard when I pay for the fuel. Lets see if that gets the paranioa brigade thinking.0 -

I dont agree with these too bits although I do agree that a time limit should be inposed 30 minutes is not long enough! I think that 2 hours is quite long enough for people to go round and have a drink or food at the cafe etc.
I also dont think that no return in 24 hours would be a good one or anything on that line as what happens if you return because you have forgotten something?
I do agree with you though in the fact that I dont mind car parking companies obtaining my details in these sort of situation as I make sure that I check for signs etc.Weight Loss - 102lb0
