buying a second hand structural survey ?

    I don't know if the price variance is different for where you live but I had a few structural survey quotes and mine were priced between £250 (+ VAT) to around £600. So I'd check if the £800 is actually a true reflection of the amount they paid and not just a figure they have made up thinking you'd be looking for a big discount anyway. It could be the region you are buying is a lot more expensive than me and £800 is a true reflection but worth checking by getting a few quotes yourself if you are interested in buying it.

    thanks for that . i will ask my mortgage company how much is a structural survey , then see how much more it is rather than to buy an ordinary homebuyers one and say £200 for the second hand one

    Why get a homebuyers? Just pay for a valuation. If this one is a full structural survey it'll cover more than a Homebuyers.

    Depends on type of house. If there's suspicion about the house (it's old, could have woodworm/rot, might have movevement, etc etc) then you need a survey you can fall back on so this would not do.

    If it's a new house and you just want a list of things needing minor remedy (window cill needs re-painting) and a bit of comfort-factor) pay £150 - 200 max and see what it says.

    house is approx 75 years old

    Good point. I paid just over £600 for a structural survey in London a few months ago. Depends on the size of the house too.
