There is a house I have had an offer accepted on
It was previous sold Subject to contract a few days ago , but fell through because of the chain broke down
the people who were going to buy the house had a full structural survey done two weeks ago as the house needs a bit of work . It cost them £800
The estate agent has asked us on their behalf would we like to buy that survey from them ............
My question is how much would you be willing to pay for it if you were I and how would you start bartering with them over it i.e opening offer
thanks

The survey will have a disclaimer saying that they will take no responsibility except to the person who commisioned the survey. Useful for info but don't pay too much. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

You think it fell through because the chain broke down?
I reckon the survey did.0 -

Can't you ask them yourself why the sale fell through. The agent and the other buyers I mean.
Re the survey. If you are serious about buying the house you could offer half price - £400. I'm not sure how legal doing this is though.0 -

I agree . I thought i would buy this and then just have the homebuyers one done if all ok0 -

The sale fell through because it was in a chain and that broke down further down the line
the survey is useless to the people who had it done . I was thinking £200 MAXIMUM0 -

I know , useful for the info.......... the agent said that there was nothing bad on the survey , he did mention that the flashing on the chimney needed doing cos there was a bit of damp picked up on a wall0 -
If it were me I have my own survey just so I could claim against the surveyor should they miss something.0

Are you purchasing with a mortgage?
If so the survey will be useless. The lender will want their own and as has been said before a survey can only be relied upon by the person who instructed it.
Possibility of the surveyor putting in writing that it can be relied upon by a third party but a lender would probably not be happy with it.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
