Towel Rail as heating?

I have night storage heating around my home but nothing in the bathroom and electric is the only option for the place. My bathroom is currently 5C...freezing cold!!!!!!!

I was wondering if I got a one of those electric heated towel rails if it could double up as heating for the bathroom. The room is only just big enough to fit the bath, toilet and sink in with a tiny space to stand between them all. If I could use one of them, what size should I go for and are they cheap to run? I assume they don't do night storage ones. ;)

  • No reason why this can't work.

You need to calculate the BTU required in your room (google for how to calculate this), and then get one the right size.
  • Ok thanks. It seems, if my calculations are correct, a 700w-800w towel rail should be adequate for heating the room then. :)
  • I find they work well, I have a 600W large unit in the bathroom and a 300W unit in the shower room. Just remember not to cover completely with towels so the warmth can circulate a bit.
  • Yes, a towel rail is a radiator in a different shape.
