Silly landline rental question

I don't use the home phone line, is there any provider that offers a sub £15pcm without line rental other than talk talk that's OK for gaming on? My previous connection was with talk talk, had no real internet problems downloading/uploading/customer support, but matchmaking on the xbox was dire, moving internet service solved the problem.
Now moving to a new house. I was using be which was excellent, but it'd be £22-24 if you factor in line rental.

My line rental with Sky is £11.0

My line rental with BT is £4.50...Oh it's BT Basic..very strict eligibility. Standard BT line rental 1 year in advance is £9.99 per month just make a few free calls to keep it cheap. You can then add your own broadband on top. If you have Sky it could be free but it is insufficient for gaming. Do you have a mobile? You could get BB cheaper through them. What about plusnet £6.49?:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Yes you do, that's how your broadband is delivered. You may not use it for voice calls, but the line still has to be provisioned and maintained-that's what you pay your line rental for.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi macman, you're quite correct I do use it, however I don't use it for voice. I know the point you're making, I'm was just hoping there might be a way around it. After all, you can buy a mobile dongle where you only pay for the amount you download.
At the end of the day I guess I'll be paying approximately £17-25 pcm.
As HappyMJ has said, £4.50 would be a much more acceptable cost (they must be able to run it at that cost...). Already in many countries you can get broadband without line rental. When I was in Norwich, I used to get internet from NTL - no TV, linerental or dodgy deals, just £30 pcm for a 1mb line (back in 2003). Thanks for your input though

Yes I do have an o2 phone, but I've seen on the MSE that the line can be congested at times, which probably means the times I want to use it. I already know I'm unlikely to get any broadband speeds higher than about 4-6MB due to my distance from the 24MB enabled exchange, it's not really the download speeds I'm worried about, 1MB+ is fine for what I want to do, it's the ping times which are more important to me.Tim0
