death of rollover minutes?

i recently took out a new plan with vodafone (who i've been with a while) as i upgraded to an iphone. i assumed they would still operate the system whereby unused minutes rollover to the next month so chose a low minute plan as i thought the leftovers would add up over time (this is what happened on my old plan). unfortunately they now don't do rollover minutes. i wonder when this changed and why they don't mention it when you change your plan.

i'm now out of pocket a few quid as i've had to upgrade to a plan with more minutes plus lose the advantage of a lower cost handset to boot.

anyone else suffered from this? do other providers do rollover minutes on iphone or not? i'm locked into a contract now but am interested in if other providers offer a better deal.

I didn't think providers had done rollover minutes for many years. So its understandable that it wouldn't have been mentioned.

if you are on a monthly plan and are not using most of the inclusive minutes you would be better off switiching to a lower plan and saving some money, even if you roll them over you are still paying for them. I did this many years ago with orange and had 3000 minutes to use in the end and they were still there when i cancelled the contract!

Rollover minutes pretty much disappeared when networks started offering cross network calls within inclusive minutes
  • As others have said roll over minutes are a thing of a distant past and aren't even mentioned to a lot of new staff as there's very few customers on legacy tariffs that include roll over minutes. I don't know of any network that still offers them I'm afraid.

We lost our rollovers with both Vodafone and Virgin ages ago. Also lost 'stop the clock' with Vodafone last time we upgraded. After four and a half years paying for my son's contract with Vodafone we are in the process of moving to T Mobile and I am not happy with Virgin so also looking to move to a new provider (not Vodafone!)

ah that would explain it. i've been with the same provider on the same tariff for a while which i have been negociating a discount on each year (due to not wanting a new handset). wow that makes me feel old......

Virgin mobile's Pay As You Go airtime bundle minutes still rollover for one month, providing you renew the bundle.

    eg - £14 bundle for 100 minutes

Not suggesting they are good value, but they do roll over.
