prepaid 3 dongle acitvated ??

Hi,
i have a prepaid 12 months 3 dongle that came with a laptop deal that i dont need,
i tried to use the dongle at my caravan in the middle of now-where to see if i could get a signal (phone signals are rubbish here) but it didnt not come up with a green light meaning it didnt find a signal,
what i want to know is have i activated it as a friend wants to buy it but only if it has the 12 months still on it. is there anyway i can find out if it is ok and not activated.
