V5 document error (5dr not 3dr!)
Hi all.
I bought a used 5 door Seat Ibiza a couple of years ago and I noticed that the V5 document had it down as a 3 door. The seller was also aware of this and said it was an error on the V5.
I've also noticed recently that whenever I give my registation number to an insurance company to get a quote, their system thinks it's a 3 door.
Do you know who would have caused this? The manufacturer or the DVLA or someone else?
Where do insurance companies get their vehicle information from and how would I go about fixing the error on their systems?
I'm going to phone SEAT head office tomorrow and ask for documented proof that it's a 5 door then send the V5 with a covering letter to the DVLA requesting them to change it.
P.S) I also phoned my local SEAT dealership and it is down as a 5 door on their own system. Very confusing.

Does the VIN number match up with the one stamped on the chassis?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

I wouldn't worry too much at this stage about the car being cloned or dodgy, it could be one of the thousands of little errors that creep into systems all the time.
That said though best to check it out.0 -
As said above errors do happen, had a case few years back where two mercs left their factory and were registered with the same vin number and reg number!!, only come to light a few years after they were made and sold, luckly the fella had owned the car from new and the dvla re issued a new vin number which we stamped for him and new reg number, I would inform the dvla as i could imagine their being issues if insurance ever needing to inspect the car0

Years ago all Volvo S60's were the 'S' model accoring to the DVLA.
Lots of Mondeo Zetec S's were listed as Ghia's on V5's.
Insurance comapnies get their (duff) infro from DVLA.
The person who filled out the original V55/5 was probably too busy discussing how many blue WKD's they'd had the night before or how big the blokes knob was.0 -
Thanks.
If the insurance companies do get their vehicle info from the DVLA then hopefully it's just an error at the DVLA. I'm hoping it's not a manufacturer error otherwise it could be more tricky to amend.
The car is definitely legit. I bought it from an elderly lady and the owner previous to her was SEAT as it was an ex-demo car. I also had it thoroughly checked over when I bought it by a mechanic who checked for any signs of alteration.
I'll let you know the outcome.0 -
Give the DVLA a bell.
A few years back I had to change the tax class on our car from normal to disabled (it's primarily used to get several disabled people about), and the only change on the V5 change form (I can't remember the actual number) was for the taxation class, handed it in at the local DVLA office who promptly issued a new Tax disc. Waited about 2 weeks, got the new V5 back, the colour on the car had changed but not the Tax class (from memory), so had to ring and they got it sorted by the second or third new V5
DVLA must process thousands of these forms at a time, and it's not unlikely that if it's a human doing the data entry they sometimes click the wrong box on the computer for details.0 -

Shame the couple on the police interceptors show? (i think) Thought the same bought the car off an elderly woman. Car was immaculate got a bargain.
Turns out the car was a mobility one and she had no right to sell it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Just highlight the error on the V5C and send back that page with a covering letter to DVLA asking for the amendment to be made. You should get an amended V5C within 2-4weeks.
The info would have come from the manufacturer originally, but is easily amendable.

I had the same with my emmissions on the V5 recorded incorrectly which put me in the wrong VED band. DVLA told me a lettter from the manufacturer stating the correct amount would suffice. Wrote to Vauxhall, got letter, gave letter and V5 to DVLA - sorted, lower tax band.0

I had a V5 with the wrong change of ownership date. I sent it back to the DVLA and they returned it unchanged.
I gave up as I had fulfilled my obligation by pointing out the error.0
