Royal Mail Special Delivery taken 3 days and still in process?

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place to post this but here I am.

I have posted a parcel to from London to Londonderry on Monday using the Special Delivery next day gurantee and it still hasn't arrived as of today (Wed). When tracked it on the website it says it is processing through the network, whatever that means. I know the snow might have had effect in delaying delivery, but am I still entitled for a postage refund considering it is a next day guarantee?

Cheers

  • I got no idea but I'd take a stab at there being some sort of 'extreme weather' clause in the small print somewhere that means you're not entitled to a refund. Just a guess though.
  • I was in the PO today, and they were telling people even if they paid for the service, it's not guaranteed because of the weather, and they wouldn't be able to do anything about it
  • Royal Mail suspended the next day guarantee on the 1st so you won't be entitled to claim for delay I'm afraid.

    Thanks guys,

I am still going to call them and make a complaint, they should have told me or at least put up some sort of notice at the post office about the suspension. Basically they are happy to take my money but not able to deliver or warn me about the possible delay, this si so typical of Royal Mail.

    Thanks again anyway.

You carry on and make a complaint if you like OP. To the rest of us that actually don't live in London it is obvious that things are going to take longer.

Some of the motorways have been shut for two days here. I have two parcels currently outstanding and they will arrive when the company can get it to me I'm not going to get worked up over it.
  • And it's the ex-postman for the win! :)

If the post office staff didn't tell you it's them at fault not Royal Mail. If you want to complain about not being advised this can be done on 08457223344 or at postoffice.co.uk. If you want to moan about the delay then that's 08457740740 or royalmail.com, but they will just tell you the guarantee was suspended and tell you to complain about the post office. Hope this helps
  • You can't expect post office staff to inform you of every aspect of the small print before posting a letter or a parcel. The onus is on the sender to make themselves aware of these things. Just like shop staff don't inform you of every little facet of their returns policy at the checkout when you buy something.

As to putting a sign up, saying what? Deliveries will take longer because of the heavy snow?

Bit obvious to most people surely?

clever username - nothing is obvious at this time of year - or what is obvious to some, others are oblivious to.

I was out delivering all the items of mail today for a particular street (we've got limited deliveries going out) and had a customer jumping up and down, shouting in my face and telling me she was going to go to my delivery office. Her reason - I'm witholding her mail, most importantly, her Giro.

Politely I informed her that all the mail in my hand was all the mail for her street, going to my office wouldn't result in her getting her giro. I went on to say it will be stuck in either a plane, train or truck, somewhere in the network.

Common sense unfortunately does not come into this.:D
