Got them from MyTyres, but the price has gone up massively since I bought them as I guess supplies are getting low.

Yeah, I looked on there but the prices are ridiculous. I think I'd be paying £80-100 over the odds to kit the car out. In all honesty, I think I'll nurse it through this winter and buy some in the summer when no-one else wants them. I hate feeling ripped off. :(
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

That's it then. I'll buy them in July. :D

  • Eagle F1's are dire in snow, and I mean, really dire...even a pair of Linglongs will be a massive difference.

Yep, but they more than make up for it over the summer

All depends on what car you drive and how you push it, they aren't all that (and yes I have had a 4set on my car). The point i'm making is that the OP's comparison isn't really relevant, comparing a tyre that is renowned for being crap in the snow, to one of the best winter tyres.

Well I could also compare it to the Michelin Primacy HPs that are fitted to my Mondeo, but that is also not a fair comparison as the Mondeo is a big heavy FWD diesel and the Cefiro is a big, not so heavy, 4WD petrol.

The Mondeo is really crap in the current weather. Had myself a lovely brown trousers moment in the lanes where you just tap the brake lightly and nothing happens apart from the ABS kicking in pointlessly. Had to put two wheels into the gutter formed by the edges of the road crumbling away to bring the car to a stop safely. There wasn't even any snow, but I guess there could've been some ice. Didn't look like it and the Landy coming the other way managed to stop ok.

I thought he was just comparing summer tyres with winter tyres. Surely that is a valid comparison to make seeing as 95%+ of us are all driving around in this snow on summer tyres.

I really don't think anyone with any summer tyre could have gone where he has gone. But the problem is the car is a 4WD and so it is not really relevant to a lot of us. Which is why I am about to ask Lum the following.............

Lum can you switch off your 4WD into 2WD? If so, what is it when it is 2WD, a RWD or a FWD?

When you do switch it off, into 2WD mode, how did your car cope in all the deep unploughed lanes ?

I can only switch the 4WD off by removing a fuse, and I'm not yet sure which one as the fusebox is labelled in Japanese. Once removed the car becomes RWD so still not relevant to most of you.

I also wouldn't expect most of you to need or want to go where I have gone. It's kind of like exaggerating to make a point, only it really did happen. Frankly given the narrowness of those lanes, and the fact that they have either ditches or walls alongside, switching to RWD would be stupid.

The biggest difference is in the braking. I was truly amazed at how much easier and safer stopping was, and that applies to everyone regardless of drive layout.

Same, indeed my tyres on mytyres are not even listed so must have sold out. Remember to get another set in July!
