    Hi...I just joined today.

Thought I'd read everyone's success as £8k of debt and 4 years to clear it feels like it's going to take forever!...BUT...

After reading everyone's advice I am going to make a spread sheet, budget and always keep cash in my purse and rarely use my debit card. I am also going to set up a savings account and save little and often (even if it's just pennies!)

I will be debt free and will be adding my name in 4 years (sooner if I can!)

Thanks all for inspiring me!!! You are all amazing and I'm so glad I found this site and that I'm not alone xxx

    Fantastic! Welcome to the Forum!

Although I haven't been on here much over the last couple of years, I absolutely credit that to the amazing support and advice I was given in the early stages of setting up and running my own DMP. In the beginning, my life was utterly consumed by managing my debt but, as I took on board the information I gained from here, it got much easier and I was able to engage fully in my life again! I knew that if I had a query I could come on here and get advice from people who absolutely understood my situation and for that, I am truly thankful!

Ok, I had a break. My father left me enough to clear my debts, but if I hadn't started reducing it down a few years earlier, it would not have been enough. As it was I had some over after clearing my last debts, which I kind of consider my reward for the hard years I put in paying it down bit by bit.

Being debt free enabled me to opt for voluntary redundancy. Otherwise my debts would have swallowed up my redundancy payment. As it is, I was able to leave a stressful job, take some time off and have money left over to be able to take some risks.

Here's to being debt free . Freedom as Roomaniac says to make better choices about how to live. I've done things the other way round to most - have paid off my mortgage with a downsize last summer, got a small savings pot and now am working on the last of my debt which is all interest free thanks to some good advice from the people of this Forum.

I love seeing all the success stories here and hope to join you soon. Well done debt freebies!

And this quote from Diamonds bears repeating:

"Mental health - tears nor anxiety around debts does not pay them (those in dire straits) money does, so absence from work does not help you or service debts. Keep your head and debt repayments as high as and keep calm and carry on. Keep shining."

Lightbulb moment - 26th January 2005. Coming home from women's refuge with sons (1 and 4) to find the ex husband had run up £30,000 of debt and the house was close to being repossessed.

    Debts at highest - £30,000

Debt free date - yesterday! All debts paid off by 2011 except one.

Pearl of wisdom - they can't take what you don't have! I didn't realise for a year that you can offer what you can afford, even if it's £1 per week.
