I am now a convert to saving and taking responsibility and I can honestly say hand on heart that I will never take unsecured credit again. It nearly cost me my marriage and my sanity but I got there in the end.
    Well done all dfw xxxx

our debt free date has been shunted back by 2 yrs as my husband has had lots of time off work due to back problems. No work means No money in our house! even though the goal post has been move many, many times we've stuck at it (even if it meant only overpaying by an extra £1 in tight months)
  • Congratulations everyone :)

a.The date of your lightbulb moment
June 2014. Started a new job and got extra payment from outstanding holiday pay from old job. Decided to use extra money to begin sorting out debt. Paid off a couple of small ones and that was my motivation to tackle it all.
    b. Debts at their highest
    Around £12k
    c. Debt-Free Date
    31st March 2016 - final countdown!! :)
    d. Your one perl of wisdom.
I give myself £10 per day to live on. Once my salary goes in, I pay my bills leaving just my spending money for the month in my account. For each day that passes and I haven't spent it, I feel way more encouraged to think "do I really need this", this stopped me making flippant purchases like daily Starbucks etc. Most months I'd be able to pay unspent money to credit card. Really motivating me to spend less. I use a countdown app that would countdown to payday.....might seem silly but I love a countdown and I now have one for how long my savings will grow into my house deposit.
    e. Links to the!MSE guides!that helped you
No specific links. But I loved coming on here and just reading other people's stories and getting tips and advice. Never really posted much. Now looking forward to tapping into everyone knowledge and advice for saving up my deposit for my own home.
    f. Which forum threads helped you
Think every one I read was helpful. Built my confidence and determination to get there in the end.

Thank you to everyone whose stories and tips have helped me completely change my attitude towards money. I honestly feel like a different person. Cannot wait until pay day! 16 sleeps to go!! :)
