TBH, I'd drive it and take the risk. There's not many ways I'd break the law but if this, let's face it, merely administrative issue was preventing me from going to work, I think I'd just get in the car and hope for the best. Actually that's a complete lie! I work on a military base and they won't let you in if your tax disc is out of date. Ironic really as it's one of the few places you don't actually legally need one!

If you work in a normal place, Gerrard and either feel relaxed about paying a fine, or prepared to fight in court that you shouldn't have to, then take the risk*

    * But don't tell anyone I said so.

so lets get this right, you taxed the car online on 29th of Nov and here we are at the 8th Dec and you still have no tax disc,is that assumption correct?

if so have you called DVLA to find out when it was posted to you?

as for driving it yes it is illegal not to display and if you are stopped I dont think many coppers will write a fine if you have the proof of payment as it will show on the PNC as taxed,

however the problem is, if you park the car somewhere and the police/wardens issue a ticket then you will have to pay a fine.

But at the end of the day ONLY YOU can make the decision as to risk or not

Yeah called them yesterday and they said it was posted on the Tuesday 30th Nov and should have been with me. I think the weather has stalled things.

My real annoyance is that I have paid it so I will no doubt just drive it and carry a confirmation of payment with me tbh.

    Cheers for the advice guys.

Exactly the same happened to me with the DVLA sending out a tax disc that was lost in the post - when I called up to check about if it was legal to drive my car without a tax disc being displayed the DVLA told me that I just have 5 days grace and after that it is illegal - I ended up having to buy another tax disc from the post office and then getting a refund from the DVLA which took about 2 weeks to arrive.
It was all very annoying but I personally would not drive the car without displaying a valid tax disc. It has not put me off ordering car tax online however - I just do it earlier in the month now!

you can go to your local DVLA office and get a duplicate which costs £7....search online for your nearest office. No need to buy a whole new disk.
